After dropping the first two games of the American League Championship Series, the Toronto Blue Jays bounced back in an astronomical manner, crushing the Seattle Mariners 13-4 in Game 3.

The page turns to Game 4 at T-Mobile Park Thursday night, and future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer is on the mound for the Toronto as they try to even the series. For Scherzer, it's his 26th postseason start, which could ultimately end up being the final one of his career.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday afternoon, Scherzer understands the circumstances but is excited about the opportunity to pitch.

Scherzer is hyped for Game 4

"I love it,” said Scherzer. “This is what you play for. You want to have the ball in this situation, you want to be pitching in the post-season. Every game in the post-season's a must-win, so when you step on the field in these situations, you’ve got to bring it. You’ve got to have your A game.”

It's been a rocky 2025 for Scherzer. Originally on the injured list for nearly three months after his first start with right thumb inflammation, the three-time Cy Young winner posted a 5-5 record with a 5.19 ERA and 82 strikeouts. Scherzer also hasn't pitched since September 24, to which Blue Jays manager John Schneider stated he was dealing with neck pain.

Despite the rough September, Scherzer reiterated that there are no excuses and he is ready to move on from his injury concerns that have plagued him this season. “I don’t want to sit here and go backwards and blame injuries for any way I pitched. When I take the mound, I take the mound, and I have the attitude (that) I’m going to win no matter what.”

In a postgame interview with Sportsnet's Hazel Mae after the big Game 3 win, George Springer (who homered) emphasized which Max the Blue Jays and their fans should expect

The Blue Jays would love to see the return of Max Max to help even the series, and he has the resume to prove it. The two-time World Series champion has a 3.78 ERA in the postseason with 171 strikeouts in 143 innings. His biggest year came during the Washington Nationals' World Series run in 2019, where Scherzer posted a 3-0 record with a 2.40 ERA en route to his first title.

The ALCS continues Thursday night with first pitch happening at 8:33pm EST.
