The Toronto Blue Jays have been fortunate to have reeled in a solid crop of top prospects in recent years to build up their farm system. Whether it be JoJo Parker, Arjun Nimmala, Johnny King, or even now the likely-graduated Trey Yesavage, it gives the Blue Jays much hope for the future of the organization with their own homegrown talent.
Toronto can now add another one to that list as a “special prospect” is expected to take off in the Blue Jays’ Single-A affiliate Dunedin this season. That's Juan Sanchez who is currently the Blue Jays No. 7 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Sanchez was signed by Toronto as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic back in 2025.

Could Juan Sanchez be the next big thing out of the Blue Jays’ farm system?
The 18-year-old infielder has loads of potential, with MLB Pipeline scouting grades having his power and arm both at 60, with hitting at 50. Sanchez gave a glimpse of what he could provide to the Blue Jays down the road with an impressive showing in the Dominican Summer League to start his professional baseball career.
In 56 games last year, he compiled a stellar .341 average, 1.004 OPS, along with 47 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 40 RBIs while tacking on four stolen bases with the DSL Blue Jays Red squad. Sanchez was named a mid- and postseason All-Star in the Dominican Summer League in 2025.
As a result, rather than starting his 2026 minor league campaign with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays, Sanchez has instantly earned a well-deserved promotion to being in Single-A Dunedin instead. In fact, Sanchez has already caught the attention of Dunedin manager Ryan Casteel who said, “He’s (Sanchez) a special talent. He’s got a bright future ahead of him."

The Blue Jays Single-A manager would go on to compliment how the DSL staff and the type of program they run in the Dominican Republic has helped prepare Sanchez so that he was all ready to meet the upcoming challenges ahead of him.
So far in his brief tenure with Dunedin, Sanchez has only recorded three hits with one run scored, one RBI and one stolen base in 18 plate appearances over four games of action. Obviously, there will be a growth and learning curve that he will have to undergo to ultimately become the impact player he is projected to be once he reaches the majors.
Nevertheless, with his power and loud contact already on full display from last year, added to his towering 6"3' frame, the Blue Jays have high hopes that Sanchez could be on the fast track to the big leagues when all is said and done.
