With Saturday’s loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Toronto Blue Jays have now lost four straight and six of their past seven games. Having fallen all the way to the American League East basement, the Blue Jays desperately need all of the reinforcements that they can get before things get even more out of hand.

However, for one potential game changer for Toronto, their return from the injured list might not be in the cards just yet. Apparently, Trey Yesavage will be making one more rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo this coming Tuesday before he makes his way back up to join the big league club, as per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. He will miss the series against the Los Angeles Angels, but will likely be ready for action in the weekend matchup against the Cleveland Guardians back in Toronto.

Trey Yesavage needs a bit more time before returning to the Blue Jays

Yesavage had been out due to a right shoulder impingement dating back to Spring Training. His absence had left a huge hole in the Blue Jays starting rotation to begin the 2026 season, which they mercifully have been paying for dearly in recent weeks.

So far in his three rehab minor league games, the young 22-year-old right hander had one strong outing mixed in with two less-than-stellar ones. In total, Yesavage has made two appearances with the Single-A Dunedin and one appearance with Buffalo, compiling a 7.45 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, giving up eight earned runs on 12 hits with three walks and 14 strikeouts in just 9.2 innings pitched. But one shouldn’t too much into those numbers as he was likely just ramping up his activity while working in getting a good feel for his pitches since he had missed the entire Spring Training with Toronto.

The Blue Jays hope that the eventual return of Yesavage could provide the much-needed spark to help the team get back on track. With the rotation hit with multiple injuries, Toronto was even forced to acquire a stop-gap solution in Patrick Corbin to help hold down the fort as they awaited for the likes of Yesavage, José Berríos and Shane Bieber to rejoin the pitching staff in due time.

As for the 22-year-old right hander, if he can come anywhere close to what he did for Toronto during the 2025 postseason, Blue Jays fans everywhere would be more than happy with it. At this point, anyone that can help the Blue Jays secure wins will be anointed their saviour in the coming weeks.
