The Toronto Blue Jays are hoping to have a strong 2025 campaign after a tough 2024 season. As a part of that, this year's Blue Jays roster will look a little different than last years thanks to some offseason additions like Anthony Santander, Jeff Hoffman, Max Scherzer and others.
After fizzling out last season, this year's Blue Jays roster is more balanced, which should help in Toronto's push toward the World Series.
And while those new faces could all end up helping the Blue Jays win, their addition on the roster could result in some familiar faces playing in new positions.
Here's a look at four Blue Jays who could end up playing some new positions this season.
Will Wagner
After appearing in 21 games at second base last year, Wagner could end up spending most of his time at first and third base this year.
Wagner had two home runs and 11 RBI through 82 at-bats last year, and is expected to be a mainstay in the Blue Jays' lineup this year. He's played all over the diamond in the minors, and that should help him this year since Andrés Giménez will have second base on lock.
Orelvis Martinez
Martinez is another player who plays second base and may have to shift to another infield spot thanks to the addition of Giménez. Martinez, who is 23 years old, played in MLB game last year (where he started at second base) and has gotten off to a good start so far this spring.
He's been a subpar fielder through his minor league career, so his position might not matter in MLB so long as he keeps showcasing his power.
George Springer
Springer has been a mainstay in right field for the Blue Jays over the past couple seasons, but will likely end up seeing some time in left field this year due to the addition of Santander. The Jays will likely go with an everyday outfield of Springer, Daulton Varsho and Santander, with Joey Loperfido and Davis Schneider spelling Springer or Santander every so often.
Springer's played one game in left field in his MLB career.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Guerrero said during the offseason that he'd play wherever was needed to help the team win, so there's a chance he could move between third and first base.
He came up as a third baseman before shifting to become a primary first baseman, but the Blue Jays front office might elect to shift Guerrero between the two positions so they can evaluate others players on the roster to see if any of them could be the potential first baseman of the future.
