With the Opening Day less than two weeks away, the Toronto Blue Jays are beginning to enter the spring training stretch run before the regular season starts and the games mean something.
Toronto had a spring training double-dip yesterday, as the Blue Jays' prospects took on the Twins in the Spring Breakout game while the MLB spring team lost to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Blue Jays are back in action today when they welcome the Atlanta Braves to TD Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. EDT and the game will be available to stream on Sportsnet.
Probable starting pitchers
RHP José Berríos (0-0, 3.86 ERA, 6 K) vs. Grant Holmes (0-0, 0.90 ERA, 9 K)
Berríos will get getting the ball for the fourth time this spring as he begins his tune up for an important season. He's coming off his longest start of the spring, as he went four innings against the Rays and allowed three earned runs on five hits.
This should end up being his penultimate start of the spring. He'll likely the ball on either Thursday or Friday (the Blue Jays have split-squad games Friday) before the start of the season on March 27. He's one of the Blue Jays' pitchers vying to start on Opening Day.
He'll be going against Grant Holmes, who has impressed this spring. After primarily pitching as a reliever last year, Holmes is in the running for one of Atlanta's starting spots this year and has made the most of his opportunity.
Holmes enters today with a 0.90 ERA in the spring, as is coming off a start where he threw five scoreless innings against the Detroit Tigers. He finished last year in the 97th percentile in chase rate and the 92nd percentile in whiff rate.

Atlanta Braves starting lineup, March 16

4. 1B Garrett Cooper
5. C Sandy León
6. SS Christian Cairo

This iteration of the Blue Jays lineup could look very similar to the one that we see on Opening Day. Manager John Schneider has loaded up on power in this lineup thanks to Varsho (who has slugged four home runs this spring) being as designated hitter and Martinez being at third.
Bichette and Guerrero have both been great table-setters this spring (they're both hitting over .340), while Varsho, Kirek, Roden and Martinez are all hitting over .320. The Braves, on the other hand, are going with a lineup that's all prospects or fringe roster guys.
