At different points in the offseason, it looked like there was a chance that Juan Soto and Pete Alonso were set to join the Blue Jays.
But in the end, both players ended up heading to Queens to play for the Mets. And now they'll both make their 2025 home debuts (and, in Soto's case, his Mets debut) against the team they spurned.
The Blue Jays enter the series on the back of a sweep of the Washington Nationals (their first sweep of the season), while the Mets took two out of three from the Marlins.
First pitch for today's game is scheduled for 3:07 p.m. EDT from Citi Field. It'll be available on Sportsnet.
Probable starting pitchers
Kevin Gausman (1-0, 3.00 ERA, 4 K). vs. Tylor Megill (1-0, 1.80 ERA, 6 K)
Guasman is making his second start of the year after he allowed two runs on three hits in a win over the Orioles. It was a great start to the season after he finished last year with a 3.83 ERA, which is the highest ERA he'd had during his time with the Blue Jays.
He'll have his hands full against a Mets lineup that's limped out of the gate to a .188 average as a team. He'll have his work cut out for him with two Mets, however, as Starling Marte has a .615 batting average in 17 at-bats against Gausman, while Soto has hit .533 in 15 at-bats against him in his career.
Megill will also be making his second start of the year after he picked up a win over the Astros last week.
He allowed one run over five innings with one walk and six strikeouts, and is coming off a year where he had a 4.04 ERA in 78 innings.
George Springer has the most experience against Megill (1-for-8), while Anthony Santander is 2-for-3 with a home run.
Megill has dominated the Blue Jays in his career, as he's allowed just one earned run in 17 1/3 innings against Toronto.

New York Mets starting lineup, April 4
- 1. SS Francisco Lindor
- 2. RF Juan Soto
- 3. 1B Pete Alonso
- 4. LF Brandon Nimmo
- 5. DH Starling Marte
- 6. 3B Mark Vientos
- 7. C Luis Torrens
- 8. 2B Luisangel Acuña
- 9. CF Jose Siri
There's not a ton of change in the Blue Jays lineup. This is the same top-four they've ran out in every game, while the bottom of the lineup features a lot of familiar faces. While Alan Roden continues to be in the lineup, he still hasn't played center field.
Soto and Alonso will bat back-to-back for the Mets, while Marte is hitting fifth. Another funny storyline to watch will be how Acuña does over the weekend; he was players the Mets got when they traded Max Scherzer to the Rangers in 2023.
