In his 11-year MLB career, 36-year-old pitcher Chris Bassitt and current Toronto Blue Jay has played for four different teams. One of those teams are the New York Mets.

After making the All-Star Game in 2021 with the Oakland Athletics, Bassitt joined the Mets for the 2022 season, where he had a 15-9 record with a 3.42 ERA. That strong showing helped Bassitt earn a three-year, $63 million contract with the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays will be playing the Mets in Flushing at Citi Field this weekend in a series that's full of storylines. While a lot of the focus will be on the Blue Jays going against Juan Soto (who will be making his home debut as a Met) and Pete Alonso for the first time this year, Bassitt will be eyeing another dominant start against his old team.

Bassitt projected to start against Mets and has good success since leaving

Bassitt started his 2025 season on the right foot when he allowed just one earned run in six innings with seven strikeouts in a win over the Orioles.

Now his second start of the season will come against his former team. That bodes well for the Blue Jays, as he's pitched well in his two starts against the mets since joining the Blue Jays.

He made his first return to New York on June 2, 2023 and pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings with eight strikeouts in a Blue Jays win.

His next start against the Mets came more than a year later on Sept. 10, 2024, where he had another strong start. Bassitt allowed in one run in six innings with eight strikeouts in a Blue Jays win.

After pitching well for the Mets, Bassitt has allowed in just one run in 13 2/3 innings with 16 strikeouts in the two games he's pitched against his former team as a Blue Jay.

Bassitt is projected to start on Saturday against the Mets where he'll go against Griffin Canning.

As mentioned above, Soto will be making his home debut as a Met, so this series will generate plenty of attention across baseball, but Bassitt's success against the his former team means that there's a good chance that he could silence the home crown in Flushing.
