By now, everyone in the baseball world must be well aware that the Toronto Blue Jays have absolutely been on a tear for the last two months. But how hot has Canada’s favourite team really been?
Since May 8th, the Blue Jays actually hold the best record in the entire league at 43-21. During that stretch, they have been better than both the American League leading Detroit Tigers, and the red hot NL league-leading Milwaukee Brewers. Yes, the Brew Crew have won 11 consecutive games entering Tuesday and pace the senior circuit with a 60-40 record.
How hot are the Blue Jays? Believe it or not they have a better record than the Dodgers now
More significantly, with now a cumulative record of 59-41, the Blue Jays now have a superior record than the defending World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers, who by comparison have a 59-42 mark to lead the National League West division. But remember, the Dodgers are loaded with stars such as Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and former Blue Jay, Teoscar Hernández, to name a few. To use these MLB juggernauts as a measuring stick shows exactly how far the Jays have come this year following a horrendous 2024 campaign in which they finished dead last in the AL East.
As if Toronto hasn’t done enough already, but with their win against the New York Yankees on Monday night, that gave them 11 consecutive victories at home, breaking their all-time mark of 10 set back in 1985 during their first ever AL East championship season. Just for good measure, their current 13-3 mark in July, which is a better than .800 winning percentage, which puts them on pace for the best winning percentage of any month in franchise history.
In retrospect, had the Blue Jays had this kind of run back when they featured WAMCO (Devon White, Roberto Alomar, Paul Molitor, Joe Carter and John Olerud) or even the José Bautista/Josh Donaldson/Edwin Encarnacion eras, it would have made sense to most people. But for the current Jays squad to do it not with just Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer and Bo Bichette, but with a surprising supporting cast of Ernie Clement, Addison Barger, Alejandro Kirk, Nathan Lukes, and Myles Straw, the accomplishment feels that much more monumental.
Just watching how the Jays have seemingly dismantled the Yankees in recent weeks with ease is a sight we haven’t witnessed in ages. The bond, motivation and will to win with this current group is definitely off the charts and has made both the team and the entire Jays fanbase truly believe that they can do something special this year.
Hopefully by the time all is said and done, Toronto will be celebrating a successful 2025 MLB season in more ways than one.
