Entering this season, one thing that needed to happen for the Blue Jays to have any kind of success was a bounce-back season from George Springer. He is an expensive player who was a lock to be in the lineup, so Toronto was going to need some kind of production from him to be able to have a chance to succeed.

Well, the Blue Jays are off to a hot start and one of the biggest reasons for that is Springer's production.

George Springer is off to a hot start for the Blue Jays

Not only is Springer getting solid hits, but, both his counting and advanced stats are making it seem like his production is more than just a flash in the pan. His batting average is up to .429 (9-for-21) with an OPS of 1.187. While both of those numbers are great, they'll go down as the season goes on.

His average exit velocity is up to 95.3 mph and he has a barrel rate of 30.8%, a hard-hit rate of 61.5%, and a chase rate of just 13.6%.

These numbers show he is seeing the ball really well and making quality contact. If his hits were on weak bloopers that snuck through, it would only be fair to some major regression from him. Now, these numbers are more convincing since they were generated on the back of quality hits

That's a far cry from the last two years when he combined to hit .240 with a OPS+ of 98 in 299 games. He hit .267 with 25 home runs in 2022 (his first year with Toronto), which helped him earn the fourth All-Star nod of his career.

While there aren't any Statcast leaderboards just yet because of the small sample size, it's still clear that Springer's off a strong start this season and would rank among the league leaders in those categories.

Toronto desperately needs Springer to bounce-back, and it's refreshing to see the veteran outfielder having success after two extremely rough seasons. His bat could be a difference maker in a potential postseason run and we are all excited for that.
