The Toronto Blue Jays entered their second series of 2025 hoping to continue their strong start to the new campaign after splitting their opening series with the Baltimore Orioles.

While the series with the Orioles was a bit of a roller coaster, their series against the Nationals was smooth sailing. Here are our three takeaways from the impressive series sweep.

Tyler Heineman proved he was the right choice for backup catcher

After having Heineman as the second catcher on their 40-man roster all offseason, the Blue Jays decided to break camp with him as their backup catcher for 2025, which seems to be the right decision.

He played one game in both series so far and has been incredible behind the plate, and he even iced the final game of the series on Wednesday by throwing out Jacob Young on a steal attempt in the ninth inning.

He's also 3-for-7 at the plate with a home run. As the season moves along, he should continue to be a huge part of the Blue Jays’ depth.

Andrés Giménez stays red hot

When the Blue Jays acquired Giménez this offseason, it seemed like an addition that would help reinfornce Toronto's stellar defense as opposed to providing the team with another bopper at the plate.

One week into the season and it looks like he can provide a little bit of both. He's hit at cleanup in every game this season and has a .308 batting average with three home runs and six RBI.

He hit .400 with a home run, double and stolen base in the three games against the Nationals, and he seems poised to set some new career-highs this year.

George Springer looks confident again

Springer was a player who entered the season on the back of two tough seasons, but he's spent he first week of 2025 raking. He has a .429 average through seven games to go along with a home run and five RBI.

He has been a massive part of the team’s early success and could be in for a massive year if he's able to keep this up as the season goes on.

The Blue Jays are back in action on Friday when they travel to Queens to take on Juan Soto and the New York Mets.
