Early reports on how 4 former Blue Jays are doing post-trade deadline

It may only be one week past the 2026 MLB trade deadline. But for some former Toronto Blue Jays players that had been dealt by the club, it may already feel like eons of time have passed sine they put on a Blue Jays' jersey. Most of the ex-Jays have started to settle in with their new teams while Toronto also welcomed their new cohort of players that have joined their organization as well.

So how have some of those former Blue Jays players performed with their new clubs since the trade deadline? Here is an early report of the first impressions made by four of those Toronto players that found new homes this past week.

Do the Blue Jays miss any of their former players so far after moving them at the trade deadline?

INF Arjun Nimmala

The Blue Jays may have made a big splash by adding the electric José Soriano to their starting rotation. But it came at a high price as Toronto had to include their No. 2 prospect at the time according to MLB Pipeline in Arjun Nimmala. Nimmala was in the midst of a solid 2026 minor league campaign that saw him promoted to the Jays’ Double-A affiliate New Hampshire weeks prior to being dealt at the deadline.

As a result, the 20-year-old shortstop began his tenure with the Los Angeles Angels organization with their Double-A affiliate Rocket City and has impressed so far. In two games of action, Nimmala has recorded two doubles, three RBIs, three walks and a stolen base for a .400 average and 1.425 OPS. With his high potential, it will probably hurt the Blue Jays a bit down the road. But with the rising JoJo Parker now flourishing in their system, it should soften the blow significantly.

OF Daulton Varsho

As one of the main defensive stalwarts in the field for the Jays during the past few seasons, Daulton Varsho joined his third MLB team of his career in the Houston Astros at the trade deadline. Although he has continued to provide elite defense in the field since joining the Astros, things didn’t start off too well for Varsho offensively when he went just 2-for-18 in his first five games with Houston.

The 30-year-old outfielder finally provided his first major impact with his new club on Sunday when he hit his first home run in an Astros uniform. Hopefully, that momentum will help Varsho find a way to change his fortunes at the plate in what has turned out to be a disappointing 2026 campaign offensively for the defensive general.

P Jeff Hoffman

Jeff Hoffman may have had a rough start to his 2026 season with the Blue Jays but he certainly turned things around leading up to the trade deadline. He gave up just one earned run in all of June and two earned runs in all of July. He proved he had value, and that's why Hoffman was traded to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for prospects and some international pool money.

So far in a Twins uniform, the 33-year-old veteran reliever has recorded one hold while suffering the loss on Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers by yielding the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. In three appearances, Hoffman sports a 3.00 ERA with five strikeouts in just three innings of work with Minnesota. He will be a vital part of the Twins bullpen down the stretch as they aim to chase down a wild card playoff spot.

P Kevin Gausman

Blue Jays fans will dearly miss fan favourite Kevin Gausman after spending four plus years with the organization. Even after being moved to the Chicago Cubs at the deadline, you knew how much the Toronto team and the city meant to him when he decided not to face his old club when they met in a makeup game this past Thursday.

Instead, Gausman made his Cubs debut on Friday against the Kansas City Royals and delivered in typical Gausman-like fashion. The 35-year-old right-hander went seven strong innings, holding the Royals to just two runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts to earn his first win with his new club.

Among the Blue Jays players that were dealt at the trade deadline, Gausman will likely provide the biggest impact for his team down the stretch given the big-game pitcher that he is. So it may sting quite a bit if the Blue Jays somehow manage to stick around the playoff hunt for the remainder of 2026. That will be the time when Toronto wishes that they still had their ace with them to make a difference.
