"Mad Max" may have made his last appearance on an MLB mound. The future Hall of Famer was given the chance to start Game 3 of the World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays against one of his former teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On Monday night in LA Scherzer wasn't his vintage self, but was good enough to leave what could be his last MLB start with a two-run lead.

Did we just watch a Hall of Fame pitcher throw his last pitch in the World Series?

Scherzer didn't have his best stuff, although his fastball was buzzing and velocity was the best it's been in five years. However, this is a Dodgers team that can attack the fastball and isn't afraid of speed and they managed to string together a couple of hits and bring in a single run in both the second and the third inning to go up 2-0.

But the Blue Jays responded with a four-run fourth inning, giving Scherzer his first lead of the game and a two-run cushion to work with. He got through the bottom of the fourth inning unscathed but only managed to get one out in the top of the fifth, before John Schneider came out of the dugout and the Blue Jays manager pulled his starter, this time without any fireworks from Scherzer.

In Game 4 of the ALCS against Seattle, Schneider came out of the dugout to ask Scherzer how he was feeling. Scherzer responded emphatically that he was fine and to just let him get back to work. Scherzer then got out of the inning and also got two more outs in the following inning, before Schneider decided that his night was officially done - and Scherzer exited the game with a pitching line of 5.2 innings pitched with two earned runs on three hits and five strikeouts.

In Game 3 of the World Series, Scherzer's final line was 4.1 innings pitched, five hits, three earned runs and three strikeouts. He was perfectly fine with being taken out of the game when Schneider came together as he was seen nodding as Schneider approached the mound with Shohei Ohtani coming up to the plate.

At 41-years-old, there is no guarantee that Scherzer will be playing Major League Baseball next season. He is only under contract with the Blue Jays for one season and after a year in which he battled through early injuries and late inconsistencies, it may take some convincing for a team to bring him back in the year he will be turning 42.

But there's also the possibility that Scherzer gets the ball one more time this season as he would be scheduled to throw Game 7 of this years World Series if the Blue Jays and the Dodgers go the distance. That game would take place at Rogers Centre on Sunday, if necessary.
