Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette will reportedly be out for the rest of the regular season, according to manager John Schneider.

The news comes following the result of Bichette flying to Dallas for a second opinion on his left knee sprain. Per MLB's Jon Morosi, the second opinion revealed the sprain was short-term and expected to improve with rest and rehab. Bichette sustained the injury back on September 6 at Yankee Stadium after colliding with catcher Austin Wells at home plate.

Schneider reiterated that the team will keep track of his progress which will consist of "Just being comfortable and what that looks like, swinging the bat, running the bases, all that kind of stuff." He also noted Bichette will be working hard to be back "as soon as he can."

Bichette is currently in the final year of his contract with the Blue Jays and is expected to hit free agency at the end of the season. He's had a successful 2025 campaign that has seen him lead the league with 181 hits and slash .311/.357/.483 with an OPS of .840 and 18 home runs with 94 RBIs. After a down year in 2024 that was marred by injuries, Bichette's performance in 2025 was one of the major discussion points in the offseason.

Bichette has clearly answered all of his doubters by not only putting up those big numbers, but up until this injury, he had played almost every single day - proving that he was durable and healthy after a tough season.

Infielder Andrés Giménez has stepped in for Bichette out at shortstop and is most likely expected to stay there until the rest of the season. He's so far found his footing at the position, including making an incredible stop in the eighth inning in Monday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

With the postseason creeping close, the Blue Jays are hoping Bichette can be ready for October and make a push for a World Series title.
