The Toronto Blue Jays are still fighting to climb up the standings. At this point in the season, the Blue Jays have a 22-27 record (going into Thursday, May 21) and are third in the American League East. While the start to their campaign hasn't been the strongest, their playoff hopes are certainly still alive. This is because Toronto is just two games behind the Texas Rangers for the final wild card spot in the American League.

However, with the Blue Jays still having their struggles, they may need to act fast to get their campaign on track. One specific area that they should be looking to boost is their pitching rotation, and the Kansas City Royals have some interesting potential targets to consider.

In a recent article for FanSided, Chris Landers ranked the top trade candidates in baseball. With the Royals being at the bottom of the American League Central with a 20-30 record, three of their pitchers made the cut: Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, and Kris Bubic.

With the Blue Jays needing pitching help, landing any of these three former All-Stars from the Royals would have the potential to benefit them. Let's dive into why.

Royals' Lugo, Wacha or Bubic would give the Blue Jays a steady and reliable starter

Despite having a 1-4 record on the season so far, Lugo has been solid for the Royals. In 10 appearances, he has a 3.68 ERA and 15 strikeouts. He also had an ERA under 4.00 in four out of his previous five seasons and has a career 3.50 ERA. This includes his All-Star season in 2024, when he had a 16-9 record and a 3.00 ERA.

With this, Lugo would have the potential to be a strong pickup for the Blue Jays if acquired. The 11-year veteran would provide the Blue Jays with another steady and experienced arm, which would not be a bad thing.

Wacha may not be the flashiest pitcher out there, but he would have the potential to be a very good pickup for the Blue Jays. The 14-year veteran has been excellent for Kansas City so far this season, as evidenced by his 4-2 record and 2.70 ERA.

Like Lugo, Wacha has also been very consistent in recent years. The 6-foot-6 righty has had a 3.86 ERA or lower in each of his last five seasons. This undoubtedly adds to his appeal, and he could be a great addition for Toronto because of it.

Out of the three pitchers listed, Bubic is having the toughest year. The 6-foot-3 lefty has a 4.11 ERA in nine games so far this season. While he has had some struggles this season, he is a prime bounce-back candidate and could be worth taking a chance on.

Just like last season, Bubic had an 8-7 record, a 2.55 ERA, and was an All-Star. With this, the possibility of him turning things back around should not be ruled out, and he could be a good buy-low target for the Blue Jays.
