With the start of the 2026 MLB regular season just over a week away, the Toronto Blue Jays have continued the process of trimming down their roster in preparation for Opening Day. As a result, the latest round of spring training roster cuts involved seven players, led by promising young outfielder Jonatan Clase, 2023 first-round pick Arjun Nimmala and Charles McAdoo, who had a nice spring but fell several spots on the Top 30 prospect list.
The other four included pitchers Javen Coleman and Michael Plassmeyer, catcher Geovanny Planchart, and infielder Sean Keys. Clase was optioned to the Jays’ Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons, while the remaining six were re-assigned to minor league camp.

Clase, Nimmala and McAdoo among latest round of Blue Jays spring training roster cuts
McAdoo was one of the key returns for the Blue Jays from the 2024 MLB trade deadline, temporarily made a name for himself after a strong start to Spring Training. However, he eventually faded a bit in the subsequent weeks, finishing with just a .200 average, .639 OPS with one home and four RBIs in 18 games of action. The former Pittsburgh Pirates prospect will likely have a big hill to climb to get to the big leagues in 2026, but he showed flashes of potential in spurts throughout the spring.
After appearing in 34 games for the Blue Jays last season, Clase was still a long shot to make Toronto’s 26-man roster this year due to the current logjam of outfielders at the big league level. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old prospect put his hitting and speed on full display with a solid spring, compiling a .273 batting average, .729 OPS, along with four runs scored, one double, one triple, four RBIs and two stolen bases in 25 total plate appearances over 13 games of action with Toronto. With such a performance, Clase may have put himself higher up in the pecking order if the Blue Jays were to look to the minors for reinforcements at any point over the course of the season.
As for Nimmala, this Spring Training was more to showcase his talents rather than making the majors as he is likely still a couple of years away. The 20-year-old shortstop sure didn’t disappoint, posting a solid .261 average with three runs scored, one double, three RBIs, two stolen bases, five walks and nine strikeouts in 14 games played. Nimmala will likely start with the Blue Jays’ High-A Vancouver, but could see his promotion to Double-A New Hampshire in short order with a strong start to his 2026 campaign.
Among the other notables was Plassmeyer, an offseason signing made by the Blue Jays to add valuable pitching depth to the organization. The 29-year-old left-hander amassed a 1-1 record with a tidy 3.38 ERA, but gave up nine hits in just 5.1 innings pitched over six relief appearances.
There will be more cuts on the way as the Blue Jays’ roster will ultimately be trimmed down to 26 by the time next Thursday rolls around when the 2026 MLB season officially begins.
