With the recent disheartening injury updates to some of the current Toronto Blue Jays players, they have finally received some good news for one of their key players on the roster. Gold Glove outfielder Daulton Varsho could be inching closer to his return pretty soon.
According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, after playing four innings in the outfield for the Jays Single-A affiliate Dunedin on Friday, Varsho will continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo next week. He looked good so far after recording his first hit in his rehab assignment against the Tampa Tarpons.

Blue Jays injury update: Daulton Varsho getting closer to big league return
As per Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet, Varsho will likely play about 5-8 games in total during his rehab before officially rejoining Toronto in the big leagues.
During his absence, the Blue Jays have had the likes of Nathan Lukes, Myles Straw, Alan Roden, Jonatan Clase, Davis Schneider, and even more recently Joey Loperfido help fill some of the void Varsho left in the outfield. And while they have performed well, nothing beats having the reigning Gold Glove winner healthy, and back soon, to significantly boost the outfield defense. After all, in 22 games in the field this season, Varsho sports a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage along with two Defensive Runs Saved and one outfield assist.
On top of that, Varsho had been effectively contributing offensively as well this season prior to his current injury. In just 92 at-bats, the 29-year-old outfielder recorded 14 runs scored along with five doubles, eight home runs and 20 RBIs in 24 games of action. Had he been healthy all season, that would have put him on pace for a whopping 95 runs scored, 54 home runs and 135 RBIs over a full 162-game schedule.
However, Varsho had found himself largely on the sidelines for the bulk of his 2025 campaign due to injuries. He began the year on the injured list after recovering from rotator cuff surgery in his right shoulder from last season. After coming back towards the end of April, Varsho would provide his massive impact both offensively and defensively for the Jays throughout the month of May until his current left hamstring injury occurred in early June.
Currently, Varsho has missed another month and a half of action and has been working hard to get back as soon as possible. With this week’s rehab games with Dunedin the first step in the right direction, the Jays can’t wait to have their key outfield cog back for the stretch run as they look to return to the playoffs once again this year..
