In 2020, Andrés Giménez finished his rookie season by finishing in the top 10 in NL Rookie of the Year voting as a member of the New York Mets. After one season in New York, Gimenez's tenure with the Mets was shortly over.
Giménez was traded by the Mets in part of the trade that sent superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor to New York from Cleveland. In four seasons with the Guardians following the trade, Giménez showed heavy potential by winning three Gold Glove awards and becoming a first-time All-Star in 2022.
This past off-season, Giménez was traded again, this time to the Toronto Blue Jays. Now in his first year in Toronto, there's something that has to make Giménez has a chance to make up for an underwhelming season by coming through in big moments in October.
New York and Cleveland are watching Gimenez in October, and he's rising to the occasion
There's nothing like proving your former teams wrong after you leave for whatever the reason might be. For Giménez, that is something he may be feeling with being part of the Blue Jays' 2025 team currently one win away from clinching a spot in the ALCS.
For the Mets, it may look worse considering at one point the team was 21 games over .500 in June and missed the 2025 postseason completely. While trading away Giménez was a move that happened several years ago, it's may be tough for that team to see Giménez making Gold Glove caliber plays for the Blue Jays and wonder 'why didn't we hang on to that guy?' Of course, they have their own superstar shortstop in Lindor who has been one of the top players in baseball since the trade - but with the amount of money they spent on their roster, to not even make the playoffs is a rough look for the Mets.
For Cleveland, they did make the 2025 postseason winning the AL Central. However, the Guardians fell in three games to the Detroit Tigers in the Wild Card series. Now, Cleveland is watching
Giménez (and Myles Straw, and Shane Bieber, and Ernie Clement for that matter) go further in the postseason than they went.
In Toronto's 10-1 win in Game 1 against the New York Yankees on Saturday, Gimenez was an underappreciated player in the win. Giménez recorded two hits and two RBI's for the Blue Jays. The biggest RBI occurred in the seventh inning when Giménez gave the Blue Jays a huge insurance run to extend the lead to 3-1 and later scored in the inning to extend the lead to 5-1.

In Game 2 Giménez went 1-of-4 and scored a run in the Blue Jays' 13-7 win. While he has had his struggles over the course of 2025 for the Blue Jays, batting .210 and dealing with injuries this could be the moment he comes through in a big way.
