3 prospects the Blue Jays should call up after the trade deadline if they sell

Things certainly haven’t been looking good for the Toronto Blue Jays since coming out of the All-Star break. The Blue Jays have lost four of their past five games while being outscored 34-8 margin. Now a full six games out of a playoff spot with a horde of team to overcome, it appears as though Toronto will be sellers as opposed to buyers come the trade deadline.

If that ends up being a reality, Jays fans should expect some of their regulars to be moving to a new address by Aug. 3, but they will still need players to fill in the roster for the rest of the season. There are 3 prospects the Blue Jays should call up after the trade deadline if they end up selling to give them an extended look ahead of the 2027 season.

These promising Blue Jays prospects should get a longer look following the trade deadline

INF Charles McAdoo

One of the top offensive leaders all season for the Jays’ Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons has been infielder prospect Charles McAdoo. In 73 games with the Bisons, McAdoo has compiled a solid .266/.371/.457 slash line, along with 47 runs scored, 13 doubles, 12 home runs, 41 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. With the elite combination of hitting, power and speed, the 24-year-old infielder appears all but ready for a run in the majors.

McAdoo’s first stint up with the Jays earlier this season probably wasn’t as good as he would like, as he went just 4-for-25 with two runs scored and three RBIs in eight games of action. But he did register his first career MLB home run on his first big league hit. Therefore, McAdoo should have all the jitters out of his system now if given another chance with the big league club.

OF Yohendrick Piñango

Unlike McAdoo, Yohendrick Piñango actually had an extended run with Toronto earlier this year due to the mounting injuries in the Blue Jays outfield.
Piñango actually fared pretty well, posting a .267 average, .726 OPS, together with 11 runs scored, seven doubles, five home runs and 20 RBIs in 51 games played with Toronto.

However, because the 24-year-old outfielder was tailing off a bit towards the beginning of July, he was sent back down to Triple-A Buffalo to get him back on track.

Piñango is trying to do everything he can to get back into the majors as he has batted .296 with a .980 OPS along with five runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs in seven games with the Bisons since his demotion. Some could argue that RJ Schreck or even the rising Jay Harry should get the call following the trade deadline.

But Piñango deserves every chance to establish himself as a major leaguer given the positives that he has shown with the Blue Jays earlier this season.

P CJ Van Eyk

For the Blue Jays second round pick from the 2020 MLB Draft, CJ Van Eyk has put together a strong 2026 minor league campaign to date. Primarily as a starter for the Bisons, Van Eyk has amassed a 5-3 record with a solid 3.79 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, with 56 strikeouts in 78.1 innings pitched over 17 appearances that has included 13 starts. His impressive showing actually earned him a promotion to the big league club just prior to the All-Star break.

However, Van Eyk would end up appearing in just one game for the Blue Jays before he was sent back down to the minors. Nevertheless, he looked good in his two innings of work, giving up one hit while recording his first ever MLB strikeout in his big league debut for Toronto.

If the Jays move any pitchers, whether it be a starter or reliever, at the trade deadline, Van Eyk truly deserves another shot to show what he can provide to the team in any pitching assignment going forward.
