For aspiring players looking to land a spot in the majors, it usually comes down to making the most of the opportunities given to them. In the case for Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Chad Dallas, he may now finally have that real chance to prove that he belongs in MLB.
On Tuesday, the Blue Jays optioned rookie outfielder Yohendrick Pinango to the minors and had brought up Dallas to take his place on the big league roster, as per Hazel Mae of Sportsnet. The 26-year-old right-hander had been called up twice previously this season.
However, both stints were short-lived as Dallas appeared in only one game for his big league debut the first time around and didn’t even see any game action the second go-around. As a result, perhaps the third time will be the charm for the Blue Jays' pitching prospect in establishing his place in the major leagues.

Can Chad Dallas earn his spot on the Blue Jays big league roster for good?
Dallas was selected by Toronto in the fourth-round back in the 2021 MLB Draft. Ranked as high as No. 15 among the Blue Jays top prospects in the system according to MLB Pipeline, it had felt like a long journey to the majors for the aspiring right-hander despite ascending the Blue Jays minor league system within his first three professional years of baseball.
That was because Dallas suffered a major setback when he had to undergo Tommy John surgery towards the end of 2024 on his right pitching elbow. The long recovery process would keep him out of action for the entire 2025 season as a result.
Now back and healthy for 2026, Dallas is looking to go out and prove once again why he was one of the top pitching prospects in the organization at one point. Beginning the year with the Blue Jays’ Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo, he compiled a solid 3.44 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, along with 18 walks and 48 strikeouts in 49.2 total innings over 14 appearances that included 10 starts.
It was the best he has looked since his breakout 2023 campaign where he posted a strong 9-3 record, 3.65 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, together with 144 strikeouts in 123.1 total innings over 23 starts. That type of performance was what likely earned Dallas a look with the big league club so far this year.
Despite appearing in just one game for the Blue Jays on Jun. 4 against a strong Atlanta Braves team for his MLB debut, he impressed by allowing just one run on two hits, with two walks and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work, earning his first big league win in the process. Dallas will definitely hope that he can stick around much longer this time around by building upon his first appearance and making sure sending him back down is no longer an option.
