Buffalo Bisons @ Rochester Red Wings (Loss 5-6)

A consistent by the Rochester Red Wings allowed our pitching to give up just enough runs to lose this one.  Todd Redmond got things going and was looking great in the first inning.  In the second inning however after recording 1 out a ball was hit hard to Ramon Santiago who leaped to just miss catching the ball.  This seemed to be the start of what would become a long night for the Herd in terms of luck.  The Red Wings scored 2 runs in the second to take the lead.  Redmond would leave after 5 innings and only allowed the 2 runs.

It was now time for the Bisons to strike back.  In the 6th Melky Mesa and Caleb Gindl were able to reach base which gave Matt Hague an RBI chance.  Hague capitalized on the opportunity and hit an RBI single which plated Mesa.  Following him Luke Scott laced a double to score 2 runs also.  Sean Ochinko would cap off the rally with a 2 run double also to put the Herd up 5-2.  This would be the end of the Bisons offense for the night however as the Red Wings bullpen blanked them for the remainder.

This was the first time I got to see Miguel Castro in person and it does appear that he has lost that spark that carried him through spring training.  In the 6th he walked the first 2 batters he faced and then allowed an RBI single to make the score 5-3.  He then turned it on and got all 3 outs right in a row and was touching 95-97 on the radar gun with his fastball.  Castro came out to start the following inning and allowed a double to start the inning which eventually came around to score after Rob Rasmussen came in.  The Herd would lose this one in the 9th as the Red Wings walked off the Herd on an RBI single by Danny Ortiz off of Gregory Infante.

Line of the game

Sean Ochinko 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI

New Hampshire Fisher Cats vs Trenton Thunder (Win 7-3)

One big inning would prove to be plenty of run support for Casey Lawrence.  Lawrence pitched a solid 7 innings while only allowing 1 earned run.  His defense had a rough evening as the Cats allowed 3 errors while Lawrence was on the mound which allowed 2 un-earned runs.  The offense however would pick up the defense as the lashed out in the 3rd inning for 7 runs.  The 7 run, 6 hit, 10 batter inning was highlighted by RBI doubles by Ian Parmley and Dwight Smith Jr.  The Cats struck the Thunder with well timed offense as they committed 3 errors in the inning.  Dalton Pompey and Kevin Nolan collected 2 hits each also.  Pompey continues to impress with the bat as he has now pushed his batting average up to .362.

Line of the game

Casey Lawrence 7 innings pitched, 7 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, 3 k’s

Dunedin Blue Jays @ Daytona Tortugas (Win 6-1)

A solid combined pitching effort and a night of good offense leads to a D-Jay win.  Alonzo Gonzalez, Alberto Tirado, and Arik Sikula dominated the Tortugas as the combined to only allow 6 hits through 9 innings.  They also struck out a total 10 Tortuga hitters.  Gonzalez allowed the only run on a home run but still pitched great over 4 innings of work.  The offense was driven by 4 select individuals who just lit up Tortuga pitching.  Anthony Alford and Rowdy Tellez collected 2 hits and a double each.  Alford scored 3 times and stole a base also.  Christian Lopes had a huge night as he went 3-5 with 2 runs, a homer, and 2 RBI.  Mitch Nay also collected an RBI and 3 hits.

Line of the game

Christian Lopes 3-5 with 2 runs, a homer, and 2 RBI

Anthony Alford 2-3 with 3 runs, a double, 2 walks, and a stolen base

More from Toronto Blue Jays Prospects

Justin Shafer held down the Loons over 7 innings and recorded the win.  He only allowed 3 hits and struck out 2.  The pen held it together for the remaining 2 innings which allowed the Lugnuts a chance to keep the 1-0 lead intact.  Alex Maldonado cracked an RBI single in the 7th to finally break up the 0-0 pitchers duel.  Lansing did not score enough runs to really show off an excellent night on the bases for the Lugnuts.  They were able to swipe 4 bases off the Loon battery.

Line of the game

Justin Shafer 7 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 2 K’s

Vancouver Canadians @ Eugene Emeralds (Loss 4-8)

More from Toronto Blue Jays Prospects

One really bad inning caused the C’s to lose this one.  As they were attempting to hold to a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 6th everything came unraveled.  Clinton Hollon had been pitching well up to this point but failed to record an out in the 6th and for tagged for 3 runs.  Michael Kraft came on and did not fair much better as his defense shut down and gave up 3 errors.  5 unearned runs would be allowed due to the errors and chase Kraft from the game.  Turner Lee came on and finally stopped the bleeding.  The 8 run deficit would prove to be a mountain climb.  The C’s scraped 3 runs together in the 8th but would not be able to complete the comeback.

Line of the night

Lane Thomas 2-5 with a pair of doubles, 1 run scored, and an RBI
