Buffalo Bisons vs Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (Loss 4-5)

Daniel Norris takes another loss after a moderate start Wednesday.  Norris went 6 innings and allowed 8 hits that were good for 4 Pig runs.  The big blow was a 3-run double by Russ Canzler in the 5th inning.  Norris allowed a fastball to catch more of the plate then desired which allowed Canzler to tee up the pitch for a double.  Colt Hynes would come on in the 7th and allow the 5th Pig run.  Andrew Albers came in and held the Pigs at 5 the remaining 2 innings.  This hold left the door open for a possible Herd comeback.

Hitting Aaron Nola proved to rather difficult through his 7.2 innings of work.  He allowed only 6 hits while striking out 7 Bisons.  The Herd was able to capitalize on those hits in the 8th inning by scrapping together 3 runs off Nola.  After a Sean Ochinko RBI single Matt Hague hit an RBI double to drive in 2 more.  The rally would come up just short as the Bisons were unable to keep it going to tie the game at 5.  Devon Travis continues to work on his rehab assignment and went 0-3 with a walk and run scored.  I was hoping that he would get the JaysNest interview bump and rake last night but he is looking good at the plate thus far.  More hits will come for Travis as he continues to show patients at the plate.

Line of the game

New Hampshire Fisher Cats vs Portland Sea Dogs (Win 3-1)

This game was a pitchers duel between Joel Pineiro and Justin Haley.  Haley held the Cat offense to just 4 hits over his 6 innings.  Pineiro matched but allowed a run in the 3rd inning that looked like it would be the deciding run at the time.  Pineiro pitched 7 innings and struck out 5 while allowing 8 hits.

In the bottom of the 7th the bats finally came alive now that Haley had been relieved.  K.C. Hobson cracked a 2 run homerun to put the Cats up 2-1.  That big blow would be enough for the Cats to run with.  Blake McFarland had pitched a shutout 2 innings to complete the long save.  Over the 2 innings he struck out 5 of the 6 batters he faced.  The Cats would tack on another run in the 8th to make it 3-1 on a Shane Opitz single.

Line of the game

Blake McFarland 2 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 5 K’s

Dunedin Blue Jays @ Tampa Yankees (Double Header)

Game 1 (Loss 5-1)

Luis Santos got off to a good start but lost it in the 3rd inning.  His line ended up having 8 hits that were good for 5 Yankee runs over 4.2 innings.  This hole would prove to be too deep for the D-Jays to climb out of.  The D-Jays would only gather 4 hits and a run over the 7 innings game.  Dawel Lugo collected the only RBI on a single in the 4th.

Line of the game

No standouts in a rough game for the D-Jays

Game 2 (Win 7-5)

Pitchers struggled in Tampa Wednesday.  Yankee starting pitcher Gabriel Encinas got tagged for 5 runs in the first 2 innings and was knocked out of the game.  Mean while Jeremy Gabryzwski pitched 5 innings but allowed 4 runs on 8 hits.  The D-Jays bullpen would be the difference over the 7 innings game.  The Jays would only allow one more run through the remaining innings where the Yankee pen allowed 2 runs after taking over in the 3rd inning.

Timely hitting would lead to the D-Jays runs.  9 hits were perfectly placed to score the 7 runs.  The D-jays collected 2 extra base hits and raked singles.  The top 4 in the lineup all collected a hit and a run scored to help lead the offense.  J.D. Davis collected 2 stolen bases to and an RBI also.

Line of the game

Solid team effort as a whole but Martin Medina 2-3 with a run scored, a double, and an RBI

More from Toronto Blue Jays Prospects

The Dust Devils jumped on Canadian pitching early and would go on to win this one.  Evan Smith got tuned up for 5 runs (3 Earned) through the first 4.2 innings.  The Canadians defense did not assist the pitching to well either as they committed 4 errors through the game.  The bullpen took over and allowed 1 run over the remaining innings to keep the Canadians in the game but the offense was having issues putting anything together.

The Canadian offense collected 6 hits which was good enough for 3 runs but were unable to string anything big together.  Juan Tejada was the only batter with multiple hits but 3 of the 6 hits were good for extra bases.  Tejada, Kevin Garcia, and Christian Vazquez collected a double each.

Line of the night

Juan Tejada 2-4 with a double and an RBI
