Yankees desperation could have them eyeing a trade for Blue Jays veteran

With the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline rapidly approaching, the New York Yankees are expected to be among the league's active buyers. It is not difficult to understand why, as they are always aggressive and are currently among the top teams in the league.

One of the Yankees' top needs ahead of the trade deadline is a right-hitting outfielder. Because of this, a Toronto Blue Jays veteran is being viewed as a potential trade fit for the Yankees.

In a recent X post, the New York Post's Jon Heyman named Blue Jays outfielder George Springer among the potential trade targets who the Yankees could consider pursuing ahead of the trade deadline.

"Yankees may seek a righty hitting OF but seem leery about Luis Robert Jr. after his injury troubles. Some other possibilities (if available): Lane Thomas, Spencer Steer, Jo Adell, Jorge Soler, George Springer," Heyman posted on X.

With the Yankees needing another outfielder, it would be understandable if they kicked tires on Springer. He has been showing signs of improvement in July, as evidenced by his four home runs, 12 RBI, and .291 batting average in 14 games.

Springer also hit 32 home runs and had a .309 batting average just last year for the Blue Jays, so that kind of recent success could make him an appealing bounce-back trade target for New York to consider.

Blue Jays trading Springer to the Yankees would make for an interesting story

The Blue Jays and Yankees are AL East rivals who just battled in the ALCS last year with Toronto taking it in four games, finishing off the Yankees in New York. It always adds to the intrigue to see teams within the same division strike deals with one another. However, in this specific scenario, it could make sense for the Blue Jays to do business with the Yankees.

With the Yankees being in desperate need of outfield help, it is possible that they could be willing to pay a bit extra to bring in Springer. Furthermore, with the four-time All-Star being a pending free agent and the Blue Jays not being a playoff team, it would be better for them to trade him rather than potentially losing him for nothing this offseason.

Nevertheless, it will be very interesting to see if the Blue Jays and Yankees end up striking a deal centering around Springer ahead of the trade deadline. There could be a good trade fit between both teams, but time will tell if it comes to fruition.
