These two Blue Jays have more value at the trade deadline than fans think

With the Toronto Blue Jays approaching the trade deadline in seller mode now, contending teams could be calling the Blue Jays for prized assets on expiring contracts. Among those included that provide plenty of value are Shane Bieber and Daulton Varsho.

But in addition to them, there are two more Blue Jays players that have more value at the trade deadline than fans would think. Those two players are none other than veterans Kevin Gausman and George Springer. As pointed out by Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com, both Gausman and Springer are among the trade candidates around MLB who might actually be better than their stats have shown during their 2026 campaign.

In terms of Gausman, his numbers this year certainly don’t jump off the page with a cumulative 4-10 record and 4.51 ERA, including an unfathomable 7.85 ERA over his past six starts. But that doesn’t take away the brilliance he had shown throughout his tenure with the Blue Jays.

During his five years with Toronto he has predominantly been the team's ace, and he led the club to the World Series throwing in big, high stress innings just last season. As a result, contenders will be attracted to the fact that Gausman could be the big-game pitcher they need to make an impact down the stretch and into the postseason.

As for Springer, he certainly had a slow start coming out of the gate this season. But as Harrigan has suggested, a lot of it could have been the result of the fractured left toe that he had to deal with earlier in the year. The 36-year-old veteran might only be hitting .229 with just 35 runs scored, 11 home runs and 30 RBIs in 74 games to date. But in his previous 26 games entering this past weekend, Springer was actually batting a solid .277 with an .837 OPS along with five home runs, showing signs that he may finally be getting into rhythm.

Most notably, his past playoff performance are well documented. There may be teams that believe he can bring that level to his game once again, and will be betting on the Springer come the trade deadline.

It would be the end of an era with Gausmand and Springer getting moved

Both Springer and Gausman were brought in to the Blue Jays at the perfect time. They represented big name free agent additions that could help the young core reach the next level. They certainly did their part during their tenures. While it hasn't resulted in a World Series championship, the Blue Jays have made three post-season apperances with both guys on the club since the beginning of the 2022 season.

With their pedigree and track record, Blue Jays fans might end up seeing both Gausman and Springer on the move within the coming week.
