July 1, 12-5 win vs New York: George Springer hits two home runs, including a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to virtually put the game out of reach, as the Blue Jays moved to within a game of the division lead.
July 4, 4-3 win (10-innings) vs LA Angels - July 5, 4-3 win (11 innings) vs LA Angels: After just sweeping the Yankees to take the lead in the AL East. The Blue Jays win in extras in consecutive games. First, with the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the tenth and two men on, Ernie Clement dropped a bunt to the left side of the infield and the Angels made a wild throw at first, allowing Myles Straw to score the winning run.
In the second game, with the bases loaded and two outs in the 11th, Barger ripped a single through the right side to score, once again, Straw with the game winning run.
July 20, 8-6 win vs San Francisco: Facing former teammate, and Cy Young award winner Robbie Ray, the Blue Jays spotted three runs on the lefty, including a Springer home run in the bottom of the fifth, to put the Jays ahead 4-2. Later in the inning Barger blasted a two-run home run deep right field to open up the game and help the Blue Jays finish the sweep against the Giants.
July 24, 11-4 win @ Detroit: The Blue Jays and the Tigers met in Detroit as division leaders of the AL East and AL Central respectively. The Blue Jays set the tone in the opener of the three game set. Lauer threw eight innings, struck out six and allowed just one run on a solo home run. The offensive, kept off the board through five innings, exploded for five runs in the the sixth, powered by back-to-back home runs from Clement and Joey Loperfido. They put up six more runs over the next two innings - and wound up sweeping the Tigers in three games.
August 4-6, Blue Jays outscore Colorado 45-6: This was the most prolific offensive performance in a three game series in baseball history. The Blue Jays set all kinds of records as they completely dismantled the Rockies.
August 10, 5-4 win @ Los Angeles Dodgers: Down 3-2 in the top of the eighth, the Blue Jays get back-to-back home runs from Guerrero and Barger to take the lead. After giving the lead back to the Dodgers in the bottom of the eighth, Clement hit a go-ahead solo shot in the top of the ninth, setting up 'The Flu Game.'
August 14, 2-1 win vs Chicago Cubs: It was seven+ innings of vintage Max Scherzer, working his way through the Cubs order with almost relative ease. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer left in the eighth with the tying run in scoring position and the Blue Jays bullpen proceeded to get the next six outs all on strikeouts as Brendon Little, Seranthony Dominguez and Jeff Hoffman trotted out of the pen and punched out the opponents. Not to be forgotten is Guerrero's 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to give Toronto the lead, while Davis Schneider had a 'catch of the year' candidate moment earlier in the game.
