Major League Baseball unveiled their mid-season update of the Top 100 prospects list and it probably doesn’t come as a surprise that two young players in the Toronto Blue Jays system are among that group. Shortstop Arjun Nimmala and pitcher Trey Yesavage are both within the top 60 of that list with Nimmala ranked 50th overall and Yesavage sitting 57th.
Both players have moved up from their rankings in May which saw Nimmala sitting 58th and Yesavage debuting at 98. It’s not hard to see why they have moved up as both players have had great starts to their 2025 campaigns. Nimmala, the 19-year-old who was drafted in the first round in 2023, has continued to develop his power game, hitting 11 home runs in his second season of pro-baseball. Playing at High-A Vancouver he’s got an on-base percentage of .330 and slug of .434 with 29 extra-base hits and 47 runs scored.
Yesavage was drafted just one year ago and has already moved up to his third minor league level, debuting at Double-A with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in June. He’s also been named to the All-Star Futures game after posting a 2.92 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 64.2 innings pitched this season. The 21-year-old Yesavage is also ranked eighth among all right-handed pitching prospects.
Nimmala is still very young, and his estimated MLB debut is still a couple of years away, with MLB.com indicating his arrival time in 2028. However, Yesavage is being talked about as a player who could potentially get into some MLB games by the end of the season. If not, he’ll likely make a strong run at a spot in the rotation for 2026.
While it would be more exciting to see more than two Blue Jays prospects on the list, the fact of the matter is that both Nimmala and Yesavage give Toronto organization some key pieces for their future foundation. It’s been a long time since the Blue Jays have drafted and developed a starting pitcher that has had success at the Major League level. Under the Ross Atkins era, only one player has made even somewhat of a dent in that category and that is Alek Manoah who’s only had two good seasons at that.
The Blue Jays are also at a crossroads regarding current shortstop Bo Bichette. He is a free agent at the end of the season and while it would likely be a set back to see him leave at the end of the year, Nimmala is a player who could eventually replace him.
