Despite the 9-5 loss on Thursday, the Toronto Blue Jays still managed to take two of three from the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first half of their current homestand. The Blue Jays will look to continue that momentum heading into the weekend with the woeful Chicago White Sox on tap for a three-game series.
The White Sox currently hold the second-worst record in the league at 23-52 and sit in the basement in the American League Central Division. More noteworthy is the fact that the Jays should take full advantage of Chicago’s abysmal 7-31 record on the road, which ranks them last in the majors. And if that wasn’t enough, Toronto has dominated with an impressive 11-1 record against the White Sox during the past couple of seasons.
Nevertheless, here are the key star players to watch from each team in the series.
2 star players to battle it out
Luis Robert Jr., Chicago White Sox

Being a potential trade target since last season for the Blue Jays due to their need in the outfield, White Sox star Luis Robert Jr. has been having a forgettable 2025. As Chicago’s main offensive weapon during the past few seasons, Robert has been posting career lows in batting average (.190) and OPS (.580) in 65 games played.
With just six home runs and 28 RBI, he is once again way off his the pace he set back in 2023 in which he compiled 38 home runs and 80 RBIs over 145 total games, and was named to the AL All-Star team. Robert attempted to get his game back in order when he actually took a few games off to regroup and refocus, but that hasn't worked out as planned.
On a positive note, Robert’s 21 stolen bases and 26 walks thus far puts him on pace to smash his career highs of 23 steals and 30 walks. So at least the 27-year-old star outfielder has been doing his part in generating runs for the team.
As for the Jays, they shouldn’t take a slumping Robert lightly. He has played well against Toronto throughout his career with a solid .288 average, .820 OPS, along with seven runs scored, three home runs and a whopping 14 RBIs in just 15 career games against the Blue Jays. On top of that, the Jays can now take a close-up look at the potential trade deadline target and determine if indeed he is worth pursuing.
Bo Bichette, Toronto Blue Jays

Bo Bichette and his forgettable season in 2024 feels like a distant memory now. He managed just a .225 average, .598 OPS, along with 29 runs scored, 16 doubles, four home runs and 31 RBIs in 81 games played. He's been looking for redemption this season and Bichette has found it. He hasbounced back with a solid 2025 campaign, already surpassing last years totals in just 73 games with 36 runs scored, 18 doubles, 10 home runs and 44 RBIs. Bichette is back to his potent hitting self, sporting a .275 batting average and .754 OPS.
The 27-year-old star shortstop will look to capitalize on a middling White Sox team in which he has had great success against in the past. In 25 career games against Chicago, Bichette has posted a stellar .333 average, .881 OPS, with 16 runs scored, four home runs and 19 RBIs.
With Robert playing to showcase himself for a potential trade, Bichette will also be giving it his all ahead of his next contract. So whoever performs above and beyond in the series between the two will likely dictate which team will come out on top.
