Yesterday was an exciting day at spring training for the Blue Jays, as Max Scherzer made his debut (and sounded off against the ABS system afterward) and Toronto got a strong showing from its entire lineup in a win over the Cardinals.

They'll continute their spring slate today by sending José Berríos to the mound for the first time while also making some lineup tweaks that could impact how things are in the regular season.

First pitch against Philadelphia is set for 1:07 p.m. from TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida. The game will be available to stream on Sportsnet.

Probable starting pitchers

José Berríos vs. Joe Ross

Berríos toes the rubber for the first time this spring after putting together along solid season last year. He went 16-11 with a 3.60 ERA in 192 1/3 innings. That was another strong season for Berríos, who has finished with an ERA under 3.70 in three of the past four seasons.

Not only is "La Makina" one of the best pitchers in Toronto's rotation, but he's also a workhorse who prides himself on his ability to take the ball every fifth day. He should slot into the top of the rotation between Kevin Gausman and Scherzer.

This will be Ross' Phillies debut after the team brought him in on a one-year, $4 million contract in the offseason. The 31-year-old pitched in 25 games (10 starts) with the Brewers last year and had a 3.77 record in 74 innings. It marked his first MLB action since he threw 108 innings for the Nationals in 2021. He won the World Series with the Nationals in 2019, and his best season came in 2016 when he had a 3.43 ERA in 105 innings with Washington.

Today marks the spring debut for Springer. While he's playing right today, there's a good chance he could end up in left field for most of the season. Today was also supposed to mark the spring debut for Anthony Santander, but it seems that will have to wait for another day.

After having Bichette lead off yesterday, Giménez gets the leadoff spot today. Giménez went 2-for-3 yesterday and drove in a run. Joey Loperfido is out of the lineup today after hitting the wall hard yesterday, but managerJohn Schneider said that Loperfido didn't have any concussion symptoms and could be back in the lineup soon.
