The Toronto Blue Jays offense has been in a bit of a drought recently, and it's becoming more and more clear that it needs a bit of a jump-start.

Could that jump-start come in the form of Jonatan Clase?

Clase has been a standout hitter at Triple-A this season, as he's hitting .364 with four doubles, 24 hits, 13 stolen bases, and a .899 OPS.

He's also on a seven-game hitting streak and recently had a game where he went he went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, a walk, and a sac bunt. That skillset could help him provide the Blue Jays' offense with the shot in the arm that it needs.

This intriguing Blue Jays prospect deserves a callup

Clase has played in all three outfield positions this season, which should help him easily find a spot in Toronto's lineup. His speed is his biggest weapon and a standout attribute that helps him have success in the field.

While he's still developing in the field, his potential and agility make him a valuable prospect. While Daulton Varsho is making his return, calling up Clase and sending down someone else like Nathan Lukes could also help the Blue Jays. His speed makes him a threat on the bases (he stole 55 bases in High-A in 2022), which could help him provide some value off the bench as well.

His speed paired with a solid walk rate (17.1%) could help make him a positive impact for the Blue Jays.

He appeared in seven MLB games with the Blue Jays last year and hit .350 (7-for-20) with a home run and two RBI. He's appeared in 65 MLB games with the Blue Jays and Mariners and is a career .246 hitter with three extra-base hits.

He's mostly appeared in right field in MLB, but he's been spending the past two years working on getting better in center field.

Clase has also demonstrated power in the minors. He hit with 13 home runs in 2022 and a .463 slugging percentage. While he's a switch-hitter, he's a bit better against right-handed pitching.

Clase is developing his power and bat speed and has excellent strike zone awareness along with a solid pregame approach. Clase has shown that he can make solid contact, which would be a valueable assest to the Blue Jays right now.

Toronto's outfielders have combined for a 94 wRC+ this year (which is tied for 22nd in baseball), so it's clear the unit is underperforming. They've also only stolen six bases. While Clase won't fix all of Toronto's outfield problems (he had a 25.8% strikeout rate last year), he's proven that he's an MLB-level talent.

It's time for the Blue Jays to give him the MLB look he deserves.
