Without question the Toronto Blue Jays have had a disappointing start to their 2026 MLB season. After coming off a World Series appearance last year in which Toronto almost won it all, many had expected them to be flying out of the gate in their quest to return to the Fall Classic once again this year.
However, things haven’t gone exactly as planned as the Blue Jays are only 6-9 in their first 15 games. Record aside, a telling stat of how rough their start has been is when the only team worse than them are the perennial, bottom of the basement in the Central Division Chicago White Sox.
White Sox are the only team that has been worse than the Blue Jays in this stat
According to Dan Riccio from the Off The Roster podcast, entering Monday, only the White Sox (-30) had a worst run differential this season than the Blue Jays (-25). Remember, this is the same Chicago team that managed to sweep Toronto over a week ago by outscoring them 14-7. As a result, it meant against the rest of the league, the White Sox actually hold a dismal 3-10 record with a staggering run differential of -37.

Chicago White Sox (-30).
That’s it. That’s the list.
No matter how you put it, it speaks volumes of how the Blue Jays season has gone so far in 2026. Currently, as a team, the Toronto offense is ranked 18th in the league in OPS (.693), 21st in home runs (14), 25th in stolen bases (7), and 26th in runs scored (57) and RBIs (55). But not only have the Blue Jays hitters been suffering a power outage, the pitching staff hasn’t been faring much better. Toronto finds themselves 27th in the majors in ERA (4.81), 24th in home runs given up (20), 18th in opponents batting average (.240), while having converted just two saves and blowing five of them.
Added to the fact that the Blue Jays’ roster has been ravaged by injuries, it is actually somewhat surprising that they are only still two and a half games out of first place in the American League East with only three more losses than wins. But any time you are playing at the pace of the rebuilding White Sox, who just let the Blue Jays have a 26-year-old potential power threat, it doesn’t bode well for the team’s chances of winning.
As a result, the Blue Jays will need to get themselves out of their rut before it really starts hurting them in the standings and their eventual playoff hopes. However, that task might just have gotten a little tougher as they are set to face last year’s league leaders in wins in the Milwaukee Brewers in a three-game set in Milwaukee starting on Tuesday (Apr. 14). But if Toronto can secure a series against one of the best in the league on the road, it could be the turnaround that they desperately need to get the team back on track.
