When it comes to difference makers for the Toronto Blue Jays, the very first ones that likely come to mind are Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and George Springer. On the pitching side of things, Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer and now even Shane Bieber likely has entered the same conversation.

However, for the one that will help carry the Blue Jays to success in September, it may come as a surprise but that player will be none other than Daulton Varsho. After all, Varsho has put together a tremendous 2025 campaign for Toronto this year.

There’s no questioning about his defense, as the outfielder has once again put up some elite numbers in the field to date. Varsho has produced eight Defensive Runs Saved while committing only one error across 110 chances for a stellar .991 fielding percentage while manning the toughest position in the outfield. Of course, he makes any spectacular play look easy like this.

Varsho has been a revelation at the plate this season

It has also been his power output at the plate that has caught the attention of many this season. In 51 games played, Varsho has batted .239 with a .902 OPS, along with 31 runs scored, nine doubles, 18 home runs and 46 RBIs. Producing those numbers over the course of a 162-game schedule, he would have 98 runs scored, 29 doubles, 57 home runs and 146 RBIs. Those are elite offensive numbers no matter how you put it. More significantly, Varsho appears to always come up with the big hit when the team needs it the most.

Unfortunately for the Jays, the 29-year-old outfielder has missed a fair chunk of games due to various ailments over the course of the 2025 season. Those injuries ranged from recovering from his shoulder surgery to a hamstring injury and to more recently a hand injury. As a result, Varsho hadn’t been available to the Jays as much as they would have liked.

On the other hand, those injuries could actually be a blessing in disguise, as it had inadvertently given Varsho plenty of time to rest in the process. Therefore, instead of having gone through the wear and tear over an entire MLB schedule, he is now likely one of the most fresh players on the roster and will have plenty in the tank in the coming weeks and his September has gotten off to a hot start with home runs in three consecutive games to begin the month.

With his major contributions both in the field and now suddenly at the plate as well, Varsho will be the Jays player with the greatest impact on the team’s success down the stretch.
