Daulton Varsho has had a roller coaster of a season. When he's been healthy and on the field he's been doing his usual thing while patrolling center - and that's providing the Toronto Blue Jays with Gold Glove winning defence.

He's also turned into one of the Blue Jays' biggest power threats at the plate this season. His 15 home runs are fifth overall on the team, despite playing less than 50 games this season. And therein lies the rub to why his season has had those peaks and valleys. Varsho hasn't been healthy, landing on the injured list twice with lengthy stints.

Blue Jays may have avoided disaster regarding injury news for Daulton Varsho

The first came at the beginning of the season when his offseason shoulder surgery kept him out of the lineup until the end of April. He played in 24 games, hit eight home runs and throughout the month of May came through in crucial situations to help Toronto get over the .500 hump with the team going 15-9 when Varsho was in the lineup. But on May 31, he pulled up while running to first and was sent back to the IL with a hamstring injury. This one kept him on the shelf until August 1.

Once again, since Varsho has been back, he's provided some power, with seven home runs in the 22 games he's played in, and they'll continue to need that as the games start to pick up more and more meaning the deeper into the season the schedule goes. But during an at-bat on Friday night against the Milwaukee Brewers, Jays fans everywhere held their collective breaths as Varsho took a pitch right off the hands.

He left the game and during postgame comments, Blue Jays Manager John Schneider says they received encouraging news. He mentioned that x-rays were negative on Varsho and they will continue to monitor him over the next few days. Varsho will obviously have a sore hand from that pitch - but the fact that there is no break or fracture is welcomed news.

The Blue Jays are seemingly walking a tightrope when it comes to injuries over the last week. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a hamstring issue that caused him to miss a few games last week, but he has since returned to the lineup. Meantime both Ernie Clement and Alejandro Kirk were dealing with the after effects of also being hit on the hand in recent outings, but neither have needed to spend anytime on the IL.

The baseball gods seem to be prodding and poking at the Blue Jays. Outside of the news of losing Yimi Garcia for the season, the injury bug has yet to take a significant bite with the guys currently in the lineup.
