After an offseason without baseball, Opening Day can't get here soon enough for fans of all 30 MLB teams. One of those fanbases excited for the regular season is fans of the Toronto Blue Jays, who will be hoping their team wins its third World Series in franchise history.
With the start of the 2025 season less than two weeks away, the Blue Jays will be eager to prove their doubters wrong after a disappointing season where they only won 74 games and missed out on the postseason.
Toronto will be relying on its duo of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette to lead the team back to the postseason for the fourth time in six years. However, there's one newly signed Blue Jay who will have the perfect chance to making an Opening Day statement against his former club.
Anthony Santander has chance to prove his old team wrong in first series of 2025
After an offseason of misses, Toronto's signing of Anthony Santander generated a buzz among Blue Jays fans. Santander was arguably one of the best bats available, as he's coming off a season where he hit 44 home runs with 102 RBIs en route to a Silver Slugger win. His bat will also be an added layer of protection for Guerrero and the rest of the Blue Jays' lineup.
This year's Opening Day will have plenty of meaning for Santander. Not only will it be his first chance to play at Rogers Centre as a member of the Blue Jays, but it'll also be a chance for him to make a statement against his former team, the Baltimore Orioles.
Santander has the perfect opportunity to show his old team that they were wrong for not re-signing him in free agency. Santander was one of the main reasons the Orioles were able to sneak into the postseason as a Wild Card team last year.
Despite a career year in 2024, the Orioles let Santander sign with a division rival, which has plenty of layers associated with it.
Santander spent eight years with Baltimore, where he hit 155 home runs, drove in 435 runs and helped lead the Orioles to the postseason in 2023 and '24.
Not only will every one of Santander's at-bats against the Orioles will be appointment viewing for every Blue Jays fan, but it'll also provide him the perfect opportunity to make a good first impression to Blue Jays fans.
