Nobody truly knows where Bo Bichette will be playing baseball in 2026. The star shortstop is on the last year of his contract with the Toronto Blue Jays and there is plenty of speculation on where he could wind up. Toronto fans are obviously hoping the Blue Jays can resign 27 year-old who has bounced back with an incredibly strong campaign, producing a 3.0 bWAR with 16 home runs and a league leading 164 hits in 128 games played this season, possibly putting him in contention for Comeback Player of the Year.
But before Bo suits up again for Toronto, or any other MLB team in 2026, he could be wearing the Brazilian national teams jersey at the next World Baseball Classic. In a tweet by MLB inside Jon Morosi, Bichette is expected to be on Brazil's preliminary 2026 roster, while the final group will be chosen after January 1.

Bichette's mother Mariana is a native of Brazil, which allows Bo to play for the South American country - something he has already done in his career. Both he and his older brother, Dante Bichette Jr., played in the 2016 WBC qualifiers - when Bo was just 18 years-old. Back in April, Bichette made his intentions known during an interview on MLB.com and reported on Sportsnet.
At the time of that interview, Bichette said, "It means a lot to our whole family that my brothers and I are playing. We want to do our best to contribute to the team's victory and draw some attention to Brazilian baseball."
This will be just the second time Brazil have made it to this stage, the last time coming in 2013 where they went 0-3 playing against Japan, China and Cuba. Bo and his brother Dante (who played a role in helping Brazil get through the qualifying round) will be looking to get Brazil their first ever win at the tournament which starts on March 5, 2026. Brazil will compete in Group B with the United States, Mexico, Italy and Britain in Houston.
