3 contenders who should be pushing the Blue Jays for a Shane Bieber trade

The Toronto Blue Jays may have had their struggles lately, but Shane Bieber certainly has not. The 31-year-old has been red-hot for Toronto as of late with the trade deadline rapidly approaching.

During his most recent start for Toronto on Jul. 23 against the Tampa Bay Rays, Bieber allowed one run and just three hits in seven innings pitched. This was after he pitched six scoreless innings and struck out six batters against the Chicago White Sox on July 18. With this, the former AL Cy Young Award has been showing signs of his previous star form.

Given how wonderfully Bieber has been pitching for the Blue Jays lately, it would make sense if the Blue Jays looked to sell high on him. Furthermore, the two-time All-Star's dominant stuff as of late should certainly be grabbing the attention of contenders.

There are plenty of teams looking for pitching help right now in the majors. However, three specific clubs that should consider making a real run for Bieber right now are the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, and St. Louis Cardinals.

All three of these teams are in need of pitching help with the trade deadline getting closer. Given the way Bieber is dealing right now, it would be wise for each of these teams to consider making a run for him.

Why Bieber could be a good match for the Cubs, Braves & Cardinals

The Cubs' top goal this trade deadline needs to be to add to their starting rotation. They have dealt with injury trouble with their pitchers throughout the season and simply could use another high-impact starter in their rotation. Bieber has been just that as of late.

Like the Cubs, the Braves have dealt with a lot of injuries with their starting pitchers, too. Because of this, it would make sense for them to add a pitcher like Bieber for the bottom half of their rotation. This is especially so when noting that the Braves are currently the top team in the NL East and have high expectations for the playoffs.

As for the Cardinals, it would make sense for them to boost their pitching as they look to earn a playoff spot for this fall. The Cardinals are currently a game and a half behind the Arizona Diamondbacks for the final wild card spot in the NL. With this, St. Louis should be looking to boost their roster, and bringing in a veteran pitcher like Bieber would help them do just that.

It will be interesting to see what the Blue Jays decide to do with Bieber. Given how well he is pitching, now could be the right time to trade him.
