As we get closer and closer to the MLB trade deadline, the clock could be ticking down for several players on the Toronto Blue Jays who could be used as potential trade bait to get any deals done. There’s no question that the Blue Jays need to give up quality to get back anything of quality. But to potentially include someone who has been a fan favourite could make it an even harder pill to swallow.
One thing that is for sure is that if the Jays decide to include Davis Schneider in any trade talks, it would break the hearts of many Blue Jays diehard fans. After all, the popular utilityman has endeared himself with the Toronto faithful ever since making his sensational MLB debut back in August of 2023.
One trade deadline move that would break Blue Jays fans’ hearts
That year, the Schneider set a major league record by becoming the first player in MLB history to record nine hits and two home runs in their first three games of their MLB career. He didn’t slow down from there as he would go on to finish the season with a .276 average, 1.008 OPS, with 23 runs scored, 12 doubles, eight home runs and 20 RBIs in just 35 games played.
With that, Schneider-pandemonium ensued as Jays fans grew fond of the “stache” and some even started donning it in support of the young phenom. He also brought back memories of former Jay fan favourite Rance Mulliniks, who was a significant contributor to the club way back in the 1980s. As a result, many of the Toronto faithful have been rooting for similar success for Schneider in the past couple of seasons.

Despite struggling for much of the 2024 season, along with the start of 2025, fans haven’t given up on Schneider and still believed that he could be something special over time. Since being recalled to the big league club at the beginning of June, the 26-year-old has shown his worth once again by posting a solid .250 average, .893 OPS, along with 14 runs scored, five home runs and 11 RBIs in 28 games. The Jays also happen to be 20-8 in games that he has appeared in, showing that his presence helps breed winning and success.
However, with Toronto looking to be aggressive at the trade deadline, one of the main players on the roster bubble is Schneider. That is because fellow teammates Myle Straw, Addison Barger, Nathan Lukes, Ernie Clement and company all happen to be making significant contributions to the club at the same time, leaving Schneider potentially on the outside looking in. Added to the fact that he could hit for power and play multiple positions in the infield and outfield at the same time, prospective teams that have the patience to let him fully develop into a star will likely take a chance on him.
Schneider should help the Jays land a solid piece to their contending puzzle. But at the same time, of all players that may leave Toronto at the deadline, he would be the last one that Jays fans would want to see go.
