MLB.com predicting Tucker to the Blue Jays and Bichette to the Dodgers

I guess one out of two isn’t too bad for Toronto

The coming weeks for the Toronto Blue Jays will likely dictate if they can complete their dream offseason. All eyes are on whether or not the Blue Jays can land top free agent Kyle Tucker and/or reunite with star shortstop Bo Bichette. The possibility of Toronto signing one of the high-profile players is still looking good.

But the probability of the Blue Jays netting both now has become much more slim with Bichette reportedly seeking a contract in the neighbourhood of $300 million.

MLB.com appears to agree with that scenario as Anthony Castrovince came out with the potential landing spots for the top remaining free agents on Friday. Castrovince sees the Blue Jays as the best fit for Tucker, especially after Toronto signed Kazuma Okamoto, who is expected to play mostly in the infield, leaving an outfield addition the most sensible.

But because of that very same Okamoto signing, which would already create an infield logjam with Ernie Clement and Andrés Giménez, the likelihood of Bichette returning is more complex as compared to a seamless Tucker addition. As a result, Castrovince has Bichette heading to the reigning World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers.

With Tucker landing in Toronto, the Blue Jays would have an unstoppable offence that would consist of the top free agent in the market, along with the face of the franchise in Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer, the newly acquired Okamoto and Anthony Santander to lead the attack.

More importantly, Tucker adds another left-handed bat to the Blue Jays core, creating a much-needed balance throughout the lineup as a result. In addition, it could instantly propel the Blue Jays into World Series favourites even with the presence of the juggernaut Dodgers.

But with Los Angeles predicted to get Bichette, it will ultimately make the rich even richer and solve their problem at second base. As Castrovince pointed out, Dodgers second basemen ranked 24th in the league last season with just a .650 OPS. Bichette would help balance out the loaded lefty Los Angeles lineup that includes stars Freddie Freeman and of course Shohei Ohtani.

The only good part for the Blue Jays would be the fact that they wouldn’t have to face the wrath of Bichette as often, since the star shortstop would move to the National League. The bad part will be Toronto will likely have to run through Los Angeles again for a championship title, and the last thing they need is for Bichette to potentially single-handedly crush their dreams.

Nevertheless, getting at least one of the top free agents remaining is better than getting none of them. So the Blue Jays will feel like they hit the jackpot as long as they are able to reel in at least one more big fish when all is said and done.
