MLB.com floats fast rising pitching prospect as Blue Jays' most obvious trade chip

The Toronto Blue Jays are mulling over the offers and counter offers as the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline is closing in. They have several trade candidates to keep an eye on over the next two days as they prepare to be sellers.

Although the Blue Jays are almost certainly going to be trading some of their players on expiring contracts, it is also possible that they could look to add to their roster. This is especially the case if a potential trade acquisition has term and would benefit them beyond the remainder of this season.

The possibility of the Blue Jays trading away some of their prospects for an MLB-caliber player at the trade deadline should not be ruled out. Due to this, a promising Blue Jays prospect is creating chatter as a potential trade candidate.

In a recent article for MLB.com, Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo, and Sam Dykstra named Nolan Perry as the Blue Jays prospect most likely to be traded ahead of the deadline.

"The organization’s improved pitching pipeline helped turn Kendry Rojas and Khal Stephen into desirable pieces at last year’s Deadline, and Perry (who is currently on the injured list for a concussion) has followed in their breakout steps in his climb from Single-A to Double-A," they wrote. "Again, expect Toronto to add more prospects than it subtracts, but this time of year represents an opportunity to improve in many facets."

When noting that Perry has shown a ton of promise this year, he has the potential to be a very valuable trade chip for the Blue Jays if they want to add. In 14 games this season split between Single-A, High-A, and Double-A, he has a 3-3 record, a 2.41 ERA, and 85 strikeouts. With numbers like these, he certainly could grab the attention of other selling teams.

Blue Jays trading Perry would come with some serious risk, though

While it would be entirely understandable if the Blue Jays want to add talent that would help them beyond this season, trading Perry would come with some real risk. With the way he has performed this season, it is fair to argue that the 6-foot-2 righty has the potential to blossom into a good MLB pitcher in the future. With this, the Blue Jays would need to think carefully before trading him.

MLB.com currently ranks Perry as the Blue Jays' best pitching prospect and third-best prospect in general. With this, he is a major part of the Blue Jays' prospect pool and trading him would not help it.

Yet, if the Blue Jays want to land a star player at the deadline, they may be forced to part ways with a very exciting prospect like Perry. It will be interesting to see if the youngster remains with the Blue Jays organization past the deadline from here.
