Angels latest trade should put these 3 Blue Jays targets firmly on Ross Atkins' radar

The Los Angeles Angels kicked off their selling on Wednesday, trading reliever Chase Silseth and Logan O'Hoppe to the Texas Rangers in exchange for infield prospect Angel Arredondo. Yet, with the Angels being one of the worst teams in the league, they should not be done trading away players as we approach the deadline.

The Angels have many trade candidates to watch over the next few days. While the Toronto Blue Jays are also going to be sellers, they should still have their eye on the Angels. This is because they have multiple trade candidates under team control who could be strong fits on Toronto's roster.

Three specific Angels trade candidates the Blue Jays should strongly consider targeting ahead of the trade deadline are José Soriano, Reid Detmers, and Zach Neto. All three of these players would have the potential to be strong long-term additions for the Blue Jays as they look to get things back on track.

Why the Blue Jays should target Angels' Soriano, Detmers, and Neto

With the Blue Jays having many pitcher trade candidates, like Shane Bieber, Kevin Gausman, and Max Scherzer, it would make sense if they looked to bring in a pitcher under team control who could help them beyond this season. Due to this, it would be understandable if they targeted Soriano and/or Detmers ahead of the trade deadline.

Soriano is under team control through the 2028 season, so it would make sense if the Blue Jays have him on their radar. The 6-foot-3 righty is having a very strong season with the Angels, as evidenced by his 9-6 record, 3.29 ERA, and 127 strikeouts. With numbers like these, he would have the potential to be a strong pickup for the Blue Jays' rotation. He is also right in his prime at 27 years old, which only adds to his appeal.

As for Detmers, he is also only 27 years old and signed through the 2028 season. With this, he is another pitcher that could make sense for the Blue Jays to add to their rotation.

The 6-foot-2 lefty has a 3-7 record, a 4.03 ERA, and 145 strikeouts in 22 appearances this season. With the Blue Jays having the goal of turning things around next season, it would not hurt for them to bring in a former first-round pick with good upside like Detmers.

As for Neto, he could give the Blue Jays a long-term upgrade at the shortstop position if acquired. The 25-year-old infielder is under team control through the 2029 season, so he could be worth bringing in, even if the Blue Jays are selling.

In 106 games this season with the Angels, he has 19 home runs, 46 RBI, and a .232 batting average. This is after he recorded 26 home runs, 26 stolen bases, 62 RBI, and a .257 batting average in 128 games last season for the Angels.
