The Toronto Blue Jays should be looking to add more star talent to their roster this offseason.

One way that the Blue Jays could look to improve their group is through the trade market, especially with this year's free agency class not being the strongest. New York Yankees star slugger Luis Garcia Jr. recently entered the rumor mill as a trade candidate, and the Blue Jays would be very wise to target him this offseason.

In a recent article for the New York Post, Joel Sherman discussed the possibility of the Yankees trading Garcia this offseason to create more roster flexibility and open a path for Ben Rice to play first base.

"Rice started 53 games at first this season, but just twice after García joined the Yankees on Aug. 3. If he can start even 40 games there adequately, it sure would help with roster flexibility, so that has to be central to Rice’s work this offseason," Sherman wrote. "But that lack of roster flexibility is also why the Yankees should consider trading Garcia."

If the Yankees were to officially make Garcia available for trade, he is exactly the kind of star who the Blue Jays should look to acquire. It is no secret that the Blue Jays desperately need another power hitter to soldify their middle of their batting order. It was a big reason why they missed the playoffs this year, so it would make a ton of sense for them to pursue Garcia.

Garcia's 2026 season shows just how good of a player he is capable of being when playing at his best. In 147 games split between the Washington Nationals and Yankees, he posted 30 home runs, 92 RBI, and a .277 batting average. Adding this kind of offense would be huge for a Blue Jays club that wants to get back into the playoffs next year.

Luis Garcia Jr. could be a game-changing addition for the Blue Jays

When looking at the numbers Garcia put up this season, he could help the Blue Jays' roster out significantly if acquired. If the Blue Jays acquired him and he put together another 30-home run season, it could be game-changing for a Blue Jays club that didn't get nearly enough power out of their lineup in 2026.

Yet, with the Yankees just acquiring Garcia at this year's deadline, they are going to want a lot for him in any potential move. This is especially the case with the Blue Jays, as they are in the same division as New York.
