Blue Jays linked to risky Yankees free agent Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Toronto needs an offensive spark, but pursuing the Yankees star would force the Blue Jays to bet heavily on a rebound.

The Toronto Blue Jays cannot afford to bring back the same lineup and expect a different result. After finishing last in the majors with 648 runs scored, they need an impact bat capable of changing games with both power and speed.

That urgency makes Jazz Chisholm Jr. an attention-grabbing possibility. The New York Yankees infielder carries star power and game-changing upside, but his uneven 2026 season would make a lucrative deal one of Toronto’s boldest—and most dangerous—offseason bets.

In a recent article for MLB.com, Mark Feinsand named the Blue Jays among the top potential landing spots for New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr. in free agency this offseason.

"Toronto could easily plug Ernie Clement into its second-base spot, but Clement stumbled down the stretch this season, posting a .442 combined OPS in August and September," Feinsand wrote. "General manager Ross Atkins has said publicly that Clement will have to earn his spot next spring, but could the Blue Jays look to add a new second baseman via free agency and utilize Clement as a super utility man? Given that Toronto ranked last in the Majors in runs scored (648), the lineup certainly could use a jolt somewhere."

The idea of the Blue Jays bringing in Chisholm is a fascinating one. Although he had down year for New York in 2026, he has shown in the past that he can be a major difference-maker when playing at his best. Thus, he certainly could be worth some consideration for the Blue Jays in free agency.

Jazz Chisholm would give the Blue Jays a prime bounce-back candidate off the free agent market

As noted above, Chisholm had a shaky season with the Yankees in 2026. In 137 games, he posted 19 home runs, 55 RBI, and an underwhelming .231 batting average. Yet, when noting that he had 31 home runs and 80 RBI in 2025, he is a prime bounce-back candidate for next season.

If the Blue Jays signed Chisholm and he regained his 2025 form, he would be a major addition to their roster. It is no secret that Toronto could use more power and offense, and Chisholm has shown that he can provide that. It also does not hurt that he is a major threat on the basepaths, as he has stolen at least 31 bases in each of the last three seasons.

But this is a "buyer beware" situation. As intriguing of a player as Chisholm is, it would still be risky for the Blue Jays to sign him. As one of baseball's top pending unrestricted free agents this year, he is set to land a nice payday. It could be a move that they regret tremendously if Chisholm continues to struggle at the plate and doesn't provide the kind of production they would likely be paying him for.

The Blue Jays need to think carefully before potentially adding Chisholm. He is flashy and outspoken and at his best he can be a game changer, but at his worst he seems to make the kinds of mistakes that cost his own team in the biggest moments.
