Whether Toronto Blue Jays fans like it or not, they may have to get used to the idea of Bo Bichette wearing another uniform. That's unfortunately the nature of the business and Bichette has earned the right to seek out other opportunities as a free agent.
The one thing Blue Jays fans can't be blamed for getting upset about though is if Bichette chooses to play with a division rival. That appears like a real possibility after news broke on Monday that Bichette and the Boston Red Sox have been talking, and those talks apparently are going well.
Latest update suggests Bo Bichette could leave Blue Jays
According to several sources, the Blue Jays' home grown shortstop recently had a zoom call with the Red Sox and it "went well on both sides," says the report. Bichette was impressed with what the Red Sox were selling him and the Red Sox have a clear need to add to their infield compliment.

It went well on both sides, per sources.

It has been reported that Bichette is open to moving off being a full-time shortstop and that bodes well for a team like the Red Sox who could use him at any spot around the diamond. They currently have Trevor Story at short, Ceddanne Rafaela and Kristian Campbell both split time at second base and in the outfield, while Marcelo Mayer spent time at all three infield spots as well.
One thing the Red Sox really have going for them is a nice mix of young players who can play a multitude of positions, but what they are lacking is consistency at the plate.
And now that their incumbent third baseman, Alex Bregman, is also on the market, there is easily a scenario where the Red Sox can pick up Bichette and pencil him in anywhere on the infield to make sure they get the best offensive configuration lined up on a daily basis. The Red Sox have apparently been hunting for power on the free agent market, and they've shown interest in Pete Alonso and bringing back Bregman to supply that power.
Bichette wouldn't exactly cross off that need, but he did hit 18 home runs last season and in a full healthy year has never hit less than 20.
The 27-year-old right-handed hitter has also been excellent at Fenway Park over his career. He is a .329/.382/.524 hitter with six home runs and a .907 OPS in 35 games at Boston's home park. So it's easy to see why the Red Sox would have so much interest in adding him, which would be a sting for the Blue Jays.
While Toronto has had their sights set on revamping the roster and possibly adding guys with some star power to the lineup, like Ketel Marte, in the event Bichette doesn't come back, it always hurts to see a player that grew up through the system suddenly wearing the jersey of a division rival.
