So far this offseason, the Toronto Blue Jays have found themselves deeply indulged in various rumors and predictions with respect to star players currently in the free agent market. The Blue Jays have done all they can to actually make some of them come to fruition, as they have with Dylan Cease signing a seven-year mega deal with the team.

But as the news continue to swirl, Blue Jays fans could be despising the latest bold prediction by MLB Network analyst Cliff Floyd, as he has star shortstop Bo Bichette landing with the Boston Red Sox this offseason to be their second baseman. However, Toronto is also left with a bittersweet rebuttal as Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated has top free agent Kyle Tucker coming to the Blue Jays to form a left-right mashing combo with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Losing Bichette would certainly be tough for the Blue Jays, as he had been one of their cornerstone infielders for the past seven seasons. More significantly, as one of the best pure hitters on the team, or in fact the entire league, he provided immense offensive value in a position that often lacked power production.

With the ability to reach close to 100 runs scored, 25 home runs and 100 RBIs per season while batting .300, there aren't many options available at shortstop that could replace that production. On top of that, having Bichette end up with a hated division rival in the Red Sox would sting twice as much for Toronto. That is because they would need to face his wrath on a more regular basis and could serve as a potential blockade in the Blue Jays’ quest to return to the World Series.

However, if the pain of losing Bichette means Toronto will secure the services of Tucker, then that would definitely help soften the blow. After all, it’s not every day you have a five-tool talent entering their prime available in the free agent market at the 28-years-old. An All-Star in each of his past four seasons, along with two Silver Slugger and one Gold Glove win, Tucker can potentially do it all for the Blue Jays.

With the ability to put up close to 100 runs scored, 30 home runs, 100 RBIs, in addition to 20+ stolen bases on a yearly basis, he would more than make up for the offensive output that Bichette could have provided. More importantly, with a career walk rate above 11% and strikeout rate below 16%, Tucker also brings renewed elite discipline at the plate.

With tons of action that can happen any time with the Winter Meetings in full swing now, let’s see if the Blue Jays can pull something off to make another supposedly prediction or rumor come true once again.
