How many hot dogs are too many hot dogs? Are we going too far with keeping stats?

Toronto Blue Jays fans are breaking records of their own. Blue Jays fans bought a franchise record 84,371 hot dogs during last Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees.

The Toronto Blue Jays have been breaking records this season and so are their fans. During Tuesday's 5-4 loss against the New York Yankees on July 22, Blue Jays fans consumed a record 84,371 hot dogs. With 42,326 fans in attendance on Tuesday, the Rogers Centre sold 1.99 hot dogs per fan.

Blue Jays fans surpassed their previous record of 76,627 hot dogs from August of 2023. Additionally, fans have already surpassed 2022 for the number of hot dogs sold with 465,406. With four more Loonie Dog nights in 2025, Blue Jays fans are just under 300,000 dogs away from last year's season record of 727,819 hot dogs.

While this might be one of the sillier stats about the Blue Jays 2025 campaign, it's a fun way to track fan engagement. Tuesday's game also had the highest attendance for a Loonie Dog night. The Blue Jays have had an average attendance of 32,019 fans this season. Tuesday's games was more than ten thousand over that average with 42,326 fans in attendance.

It shouldn't be too surprising that Blue Jays fans blew their season and franchise record out of the water on Tuesday. The previous record was set on August 29th, 2023 when the Blue Jays sat third in the AL East, 11.5 games back of the Baltimore Orioles for the top spot. During the last Loonie Dog game this season on June 17th, the Jays sat third in the AL East. A 5-4 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks put the Jays half a game back of the Tampa Bay Rays for second and three games behind the Yankees for the top spot.

By last week's game on July 22nd, the Blue Jays sat atop the AL East standings and one game back of the best record in MLB. Add in that the Jays were facing their division rivals in the Yankees and going for a record twelfth straigh home, it's no wonder Tuesday's game brought out the fans, and the dogs.

With four more Loonie Dog nights scheduled for the season and the Blue Jays now holding the best record in baseball, Tuesday's record may not hold for long. If the Blue Jays keep playing like they have been, expect more fan turnout for every game, not just the Loonie Dog nights.

If you're interested in contributing to the Loonie Dog chart, the remaining nights are scheduled for August 12th against the Chicago Cubs, August 26th against the Minnesota Twins, September 9th against the Houston Astros, and September 23rd against the Boston Red Sox.
