Former Blue Jays reliever having a quiet resurgence for surprising White Sox

As the Toronto Blue Jays continue to struggle, the Chicago White Sox are continuing to be baseball's most surprising team this season. At the time of this writing, the White Sox sit at the top of the American League Central with a 52-46 record. They have also been red-hot as of late, winning five out of their last six games.

There are many reasons behind the White Sox's big step forward so far this season. Interestingly, one former Blue Jays reliever has been having himself a nice bounce-back year with the White Sox in 2026: Jordan Hicks.

After posting a 2-7 record and a 6.95 ERA last season split between the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox, Hicks has undoubtedly settled things down this season with the White Sox. The 6-foot-2 righty is currently sporting a 3.71 ERA to go along with 30 strikeouts in 29 appearances for the White Sox. With numbers like these, the former Blue Jays pitcher has been a solid part of Chicago's bullpen this season.

Yet, what more's encouraging about Hicks is that he has been red-hot as the season has carried on. The former Blue Jays pitcher did not surrender an earned run in three appearances in June and has yet to in seven apperances so far in July. With that, he has been incredibly reliable for the White Sox down the stretch.

If Hicks can keep up this kind of pitching, it would be huge for a White Sox team that is looking to continue to prove its doubters wrong and make the playoffs this year. It would also be big for him after how he struggled last season.

Looking back at Hicks' time with the Blue Jays

The Blue Jays acquired Hicks from the St. Louis Cardinals during the 2023 season in exchange for Adam Kloffenstein and Sem Robberse. This was after Hicks had a 3.67 ERA in 40 games for the Cardinals during that season before the trade.

Overall, Hicks was a solid trade deadline pickup for the Blue Jays that season. He made 25 appearances for the Blue Jays following the trade, where he had a 2-3 record, a 2.63 ERA, and 22 strikeouts. With this, he ended up being a nice part of Toronto's bullpen during his brief time with the team.

Hicks' tenure with the Blue Jays that following offseason when he signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the San Francisco Giants in free agency. While he had his struggles with the Giants and Red Sox after leaving Toronto, he is now bouncing back with the White Sox. Let's see if he can keep this kind of pitching up from here.
