Things certainly haven’t been going well in Toronto Blue Jays land in recent times. Whether it be the pitching, hitting, and now even the fielding, nothing appears to be working for the Blue Jays. Fans know it’s bad when even the usual joyous Ernie Clement speaks out to vent his frustrations with the recent happenings for Toronto. In fact, Clement’s harsh, yet spot-on quote pretty much summed up everything you need to know about the Blue Jays right now.

“You’ve got to find a way to win when you’re not playing your best and we’re not doing that. I don’t know. You play like s***, you don’t play as a team, it’s really tough to win baseball games. So we’ve got to start playing for each other and play a lot better. You can’t win baseball games when you play like that,” Clement said.

The Blue Jays haven’t been playing their 2025 brand of baseball, and Ernie knows it

If anyone needed any evidence to be convinced, just take a look at the game on Monday night against the San Francisco Giants. It had a bit of everything from start to finish. The Blue Jays’ inept offense was at it again as Toronto was able to muster only three hits and one run, a Kazuma Okamoto homer, off a Giants’ team that sat in the bottom five of the entire league.

As for the pitching, even with ace Kevin Gausman leading the way on the mound, the Jays would end up giving up 10 runs on the night, which doesn’t really help when the offense has been putrid at best. To make matters worse, the Blue Jays would commit three careless errors on defense, led also by Okamoto’s two misplays, ultimately leading to three unearned runs.

But taking it even further beyond Monday’s game, Toronto has put up only three runs and 13 hits in their last four games COMBINED. They have also yielded double digits in runs in two of their past three matches while committing five errors during that same stretch. So when you practically have all facets of the game not working at the same time, it certainly is a recipe for disaster for a team that was aspiring to make it back to the playoffs this season.

As Clement put it, the Blue Jays can’t keep playing like this and must collectively work their way out of the funk as a team. They can’t keep looking lifeless and unfocused like they have been in recent games and should start rallying each other to get their heart and soul back into the game that they love. Because if they don’t do it soon enough, Toronto could very well just mail in the season with nightmarish flashbacks of their 2024 campaign, making their 2025 run a distant memory.
