Huge congratuations are in order for Daulton Varsho! A week after he was deservedly named a Gold Glove finalist in center field he is once again honored for his incredible defense after SIS Baseball announced that he won the 2024 Multi-Position Fielding Bible Award and Defensive Player of the Year.

This doesn't come as a surprise to Blue Jays fans, he led MLB in defensive runs saved once again in 2024, (29), having done so for the past three seasons. He was second in DRS in both center and left field.

SIS editorial operations lead Mark Simons stated: 'He is a highly deserving winner of Defensive Player of the Year. He played with an incredible effort level and a determination to make every play he possibly could.' Since the creation of the Fielding Bible Award in 2006, Varsho is the first Blue Jays player to win multiple awards in the same season plus Toronto's fifth recipent after Kevin Kiermaier last year, Kevin Pillar in 2016 both in center field, starting pitcher R.A Dickey in 2016 and second baseman Aaron Hill in 2007 & 2009. The Fielding Bible Award is given to the best defensive players in MLB based on statistics and voted on by 16 different writers.

As John Schneider puts it perfectly the Blue Jays are 'really spoiled with Varsho out there because he makes tough plays look routine.' He flourished in catching deep and shallow fly balls alongside three Outfield Arm Runs Saved committing just two errors. Varsho is finally getting the recognition he's deserved for so long and his success should continue when the Gold Glove winners are announced on November 3rd live on ESPN.
