It's no secret that the Toronto Blue Jays have been bitten by the injury bug this season. On offense, Alejandro Kirk, Addison Barger, Nathan Lukes, Anthony Santander, and George Springer are on the injury list. To fill in, we've seen Eloy Jiménez called up while Brandon Valenzuela and Yohendrick Pinango recently made their MLB debuts. Lenyn Sosa was also acquired to build the offensive depth as the Blue Jays picked him up in a trade with the Chicago White Sox. The hope was he could run into a couple of home runs after he launched 22 just a year ago.

The Blue Jays have been lucky to go about one full week before somebody else lands on the Injured List and so if (or more likely when) another injury occurs or a call-up is needed, there's one prospect who is making a strong case to be that next man up: Charles McAdoo. He was acquired in the 2024 trade that sent Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The prospect has spent time at first and third base this season, as well as DH, but he has also logged innings at second base and left field over his four Minor League seasons.

Along with the advantage of playing all over the field, McAdoo has been thriving at the plate this season with the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate.

McAdoo has positional flexibitly and is developing a strong presence at the plate

He is a true five-tool player with the skill set to fill up a stat sheet. Before the April 28 game, with over 96 plate appearances, he is slashing .280/.375/.537 with five home runs, 12 runs, 14 knocked in, and five stolen bases. His fifth home run came off the bat at 104.7 mph and flew 422 feet. He's also shown an improvement this season with his plate discipline.

Strikeouts have been an issue over McAdoo’s career, but this season, he has improved his strikeout percentage from 27.7 percent last season to 19.8 percent. He has also excelled on defense. This season, he has a perfect fielding percentage between 169 combined innings playing first and third base. These stats are a drastic improvement, though a smaller sample size, than the 17 errors over 889.1 innings in 2025.

McAdoo is quickly rising on the prospect list and earning the right to hear his name called for his MLB debut soon. When that time will be remains uncertain, as there is also stiff competition for their call-ups, and players already on the 26-man roster are getting healthy. However, McAdoo is doing everything he can to force the Blue Jays' hands.
