While the Toronto Blue Jays have had a good start to the 2025 season on the field, things off the field aren't too bad either.

Last week, the Blue Jays made their 14-year, $500 million extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. official, confirming that the 26-year-old slugger is going to be a Blue Jay for life.

One of the main questions that's emerged as a result of that extension is around what the future holds for shortstop Bo Bichette.

Bo Bichette offers promising reaction to Guerrero Jr.’s extension

Although there hasn't been a ton of news around Bichette and the Blue Jays negotiating a deal, the 27-year-old offered a promising reaction when asked about Guerrero's extension.

When asked about staying in Toronto back winning a championship with Guerrero, he's what Bichette had to say according to Sportsnet's Hazel Mae:

"[It] has been my goal since I was a kid.. to be with one organization my whole career, and building a winning culture with Vladdy, but nothing's on the table right now"

Some fans were concerned with the last sentence of the statement where Bichette mentions nothing is on the table, and looked past the fact that he does want to remain a Blue Jay.

While the Toronto front office likely has offered an extension to Bichette at some point over the past couple years, it's pretty much a given that Guerrero's extension has been the priority as of late.

But, for as long as things are labeled between the Blue Jays and Guerrero, fan's anxiety is only going to grow.

Bichette has had a strong start to the 2025 season, and has likely earned himself a pay raise once free agency comes after the season.

After leading the American League in hits in 2021 and '22, Bichette had an All-Star season in 2023 before struggling immensely last season in an injury-plagued year.

Bichette only managed to hit .225 in 81 games, and finished the year with just 70 hits and 40 home runs.

But he's turned things around this year. Bichette entered Friday's game hitting .305 with 11 RBI and a .750 OPS to go along with an OPS+ of 118. He also leads the American League with eight doubles.

He's a career .290 hitter with 93 home runs, 354 RBI and 748 hits over 628 games. He's become one of the key pieces to the Jays' lineup, and it would be wise for Toronto to lock him up long-term.

And even through nothing seems imminent, there's no reason to panic right now.

Bichette's comments make it seem like he wants to stay, and there's still is a ton of time left in the season for the two sides to negotiate a new deal.

Plus everything else should be settled down now that Guerrero has his contract. Bichette signing a long-term deal with the Blue Jays is likely a matter of when, not if.
