The Toronto Blue Jays have been bitten by the injury bug yet again. This time it was none other than the heart and soul of the team, George Springer.
Springer left the game against the Minnesota Twins after fouling a pitch off his toe, and it was later revealed that he had suffered a fractured big toe. Now the Blue Jays will need to fill another huge role on the team with call-ups and bench players.

Springer suffers fractured big toe on Saturday afternoon
With Springer heading for a stay on the IL, it’ll be determined later just how much time he will need to recover. Which means the Blue Jays will have to fill what he brings to the lineup. As mentioned above, it’ll be filled by a combination of bench players and call-ups.
The good news about Springer missing time is that they have the defensive ability covered. The bad news is what he can bring offensively. Springer is coming off a Silver Slugger season from 2025 in which he hit .309/.399/.560 with 32 home runs and 18 stolen bases. Like a few other players on the team, he was off to a bit of a slow start, but his bat was starting to come alive in recent games.
Over his last three games, Springer had four hits, with three of those being doubles, and drove in four runs, while striking out just once.
It also makes things even more difficult with Addison Barger on the 10-day IL. That said, there is a good chance that Davis Schneider and Jesús Sánchez will get an extended look in the lineup. Myles Straw could also start coming into ball games late defensively even more than before.
When it comes to replacing George Springer, the Blue Jays' AAA position players include:

Eloy Jiménez (R)
Yohendrick Pinango (L)
Jonatan Clase (S)
Riley Tirotta (R)
Charles McAdoo (R)
RJ Schreck (L)
Josh Kasevich (R)
Only Clase is on the 40-man, but Jays have an open spot.
That said, there are a few options within the organization, mainly in AAA, that can be called up and get some playing time. As per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, he listed Eloy Jiménez, Yohendrick Pinango, Jonatan Clase, Riley Tirotta, Charles McAdoo, RJ Schreck, and Josh Kasevich as potential replacements.
However, Clase is the only one that is listed on the 40-man roster. Which could mean the Blue Jays would need to clear some space on the 40-man to call up one of the other players. The one choice that stands out as an option would be Jiménez. He is a veteran who did fairly well in spring training. And now could get another chance playing in the majors.
To make matters worse for the Blue Jays, they fell to the Twins, 7-4, and dropped to a record of 6-8 on the season. Between the injuries and the losses, April has not gone the way the Blue Jays had hoped for.
