After a memorable, and resurgent, season at the plate for George Springer, the Toronto Blue Jays veteran will get to take home some hardware to remember his 2025 campaign. As announced live and exclusively on The Baseball Insiders YouTube channel, the 36-year-old Springer has added his third career Silver Slugger award to his trophy case, this one credited to his work as a Designated Hitter.

It caps off a year not many saw coming as Springer had one of the worst years offensively in 2024. Hampered by injuries all year long, Springer hit just .220/.303/.371 with 19 home runs in 145 games. Those numbers are long in the rearview mirror after his monstrous 2025 campaign.

Springer came through time and time again for the Blue Jays in 2025. He hit .306 with 26 hits and an .888 OPS in the first month of the season. While his numbers overall numbers dropped in May, his power numbers rose, hitting six home runs in the month. He was better in June, and in July he took off, hitting seven home runs while slashing .371/.451/.640. He also had arguably the biggest single hit of the season when his grand slam gave the Blue Jays the lead on Canada Day against the Yankees.

He didn't slow down the rest of the way. In August, Springer had a 1.152 OPS with six home runs in the 14 games he played (he missed time due to an injury) and in September he hit eight home runs while slashing .347/.434/.663. Isolating his numbers as a DH, Springer played in 81 games, hit 25 home runs, drove in 57 runs, had 100 hits and slashed .326/.416/.606 with an OPS of 1.022.

Springer's 4.8 bWAR was his higest in a single season since 2019 when he produced a 6.5 bWAR in his second last season with the Astros. He finished with 32 home runs, the last time he hit 30 or more was also in 2019. He had 154 hits and produced a 161 OPS+ which is the highest in that category in his entire career.

It was impressive enough to get Springer the votes he needed to win this years award, beating out Yandy Díaz of the Tampa Bay Rays and Brent Rooker of the Athletics. That voting is done by a combination of MLB coaches and managers. They are asked to use a combination of offensive statistics and their own professional opinions of the best hitters at each position to determine the award winners. This year the voters decided to go with the young gun instead of the perennial candidate.

And while the voting doesn't take into consideration what players did in the postseason, Springers go-ahead home run in Game 7 of the ALCS to give Toronto their first AL pennant in 32 years completely cemented his legacy in Blue Jays history.

Blue Jays fans knew they were watching something special all season long and this Silver Slugger award confirms it.
